Can you tell me your favourite 3 and least favourite 3 from my list, its a bit of a mixed bag but all go well with my 1 syllable surname, not sure if there will be a middle name as yet.

Thankyou

Martha
Charlotte
Annie
Alice
Harriet
Rosie
Florence
Maisie
Anna
Isabel
Anya

Favourite - Rosie, Charlotte, Alice

Not favourite - Harriet, Florence, Anya

I really like Anna, Anya and Isabel. I also like Annie but I would use as a nickname for Anna or Anya rather than in it's own right.

I prefer Rose, Rosa, Rosalie, Rosanna, Rosalind etc. to Rosie. Rosie makes a nice nickname though.

My least favourites are Maisie, Martha and Harriet but the latter two are only there as you asked for 3.

Martha 1
Charlotte 3
Annie 5
Alice 8
Harriet 9
Rosie 6
Florence
Maisie 4
Anna 2
Isabel 7
Anya 10

Favourite 3 are Anna, Isabel and Anya (but Anya is also used as a nickname for Anna, so if you use the lovely classic Anna you have 3 names in 1 - Anna, nn Anya or Annie).

You also can't go wrong with Alice, Charlotte or Rose/Rosa (nn Rosie) - very classic, timeless names.

Least favourite 3 are Martha (sounds dowdy to me), Maisie (too nickname and I'm not keen on the full Margaret) and Harriet (okay, but feels a bit horsey/jolly hockeysticks).

MsTSwift · 27/12/2020 21:21

They are all nice but Isabel names are very very overused so if that bothers you avoid..

Kote · 27/12/2020 21:25

It’s a lovely list! I would happily pick any of your names, apart from Maisie which is too twee for me (although oddly I don’t feel that way about Daisy). And I prefer the Isobel spelling.

I really dislike Martha and Maisie.

I like the rest. My top three are Alice, Harriet and Florence.

TempsPerdu · 27/12/2020 23:13

Nice list OP. My three favourites: Anya (top pick - love it), Alice and Harriet.

Not keen on Maisie (too cutesy and insipid), Rosie (same reason, but I love Rosa, Rosanna etc) and Charlotte (find it dull and don’t like the ‘Char’ sound or the nicknames Charlie and Lottie)

MercyBodle · 28/12/2020 01:21

Favourite 3:
Alice
Harriet
Anna

Least (very hard because I actually like them all):
Martha
Charlotte
Isabel

partyatthepalace · 28/12/2020 22:44

Favourite:

  • Annie or Anna (I’d give her Anna as full name, nn Annie then she can chose later)
  • Maisie is cool, bit less classic and fashionable right now - so will start more - but is spunky. Ditto would probably call her Mary or Margaret or some variation like Marianne with nn Maisie (so she has a more grown up / classic option).

I like Charlotte, Isabel, Alice and Rose/Rosie but they are so popular right now I’d favour Anna.

Harriet is fine

Florence is a bit little girl but OK.

Anya - Ok but much prefer the elegant and classic Anna

I can’t stand Martha because of the biblical story. Mystified it’s so popular.

Rosie

Maisie
Anna
Isabel

Lovely list!

Martha — too stereotypically apron-clad and goody-goody
Charlotte — gorgeous! Charlie is a fab nn
Annie — prefer as a nn for Anna, but very sweet & romantic & perf for a plucky protagonist
Alice — old ladyish
Harriet — old ladyish, but Hattie’s a cute nn
Rosie — nn for Rose, but still not overly fond
Florence — meh, unique but not stunning
Maisie — twee & dizzying almost
Anna — gorgeous! It is somewhat frumpy to my ears, but the nn Annie is darling and I also just picture an rosy-cheeked, apple-carrying lass at a picnic, so it’s a happy, sprightly name!
Isabel — it’s alright
Anya — nn for Anna

Faves are Charlotte and Anna :)

EdgeOfACoin · 04/01/2021 07:07

In order:

Alice - Favourite, classic

Isabel - I really like Isabel, but is a v popular name and you will be told it is overused

Charlotte - Pretty. Love Lottie for a nickname

Florence - This name has grown on me over time. Prefer Florrie to Flo as a nickname.

Harriet - Another name that's grown on me. More unusual than your other choices, although fits in with the revival of vintage names.

Anna - Nice enough, but I find it rather boring.

Anya - Fine. More distinctive than Anna.

Martha - Are you in London? Be careful of her name becoming Marfa. That would drive me mad.

Rosie - Much prefer Rose. Rosie seems a bit childish to me.

Annie - makes me think of Orphan Annie. Find it a bit of a non-name, but I know lots of people like it.

Maisie - I don't hate it but I prefer your other choices.
