We won't be finding out the gender but I have always loved Hepzibah for a girl. It's not set in stone but a strong contender! Totally stumped for boys names though and in need of suggestions for equally unusual, strong names please!

Oh I adore that name! You might like Hezekiah for a boys name? (Who happened to be married to a Hephziba)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/12/2020 20:03

Ezekiel immediately sprung to mind, I also like Zachary and Josiah, Ezra and Asa or moving away from biblical names Xavier, Cassius and Maxim/ilian.

Other less common girl suggestions - Keziah, Talitha or even Mehetabel?

Argh I thought you were looking for more girls names and was going to suggest Bathsheba.

Jedidiah, Ishmael, Hector, Quentin, Nathaniel, Ignatius, Bartholomew, Jasper, Sirius, Cornelius, Ellarby, Ambrose, Alban. I taught a little Horatio once who was awesome and lived up to his name...he was really bloody smart, intelligent and a brilliant conversationalist.

RosaBaby2 · 23/12/2020 21:12

I know someone with a Hepzibah, her brother is called Humfrey.

Zebulon - Zeb for short.

KindKylie · 23/12/2020 22:06

I've only really ever linked Hepzibah to Carrie's War so boys names that spring to mind are Nick and Albert!

MoreHairyThanScary · 23/12/2020 22:12

Amos was my grandad's name and I love it! Nn moss/ mossie?

LittleRa · 23/12/2020 22:25

For biblical names, look to Joseph’s brothers from the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat Grin
Rueben, Simeon, Levi, Naphtali, Issachar, Asher, Dan, Zebulun, Judah, Benjamin, Gad.

bluechameleon · 23/12/2020 22:38

Like a previous poster, my immediate thought was Ezekiel.

I know a Hepzibah! She goes by Hettie.

ProudAuntie76 · 23/12/2020 23:14

@Oddgirlout

Don't use Jabez, really popular Christian book a while ago, ruined the name
Why is that a problem? Confused

Maybe OP is Christian. Or not bigoted.

@Oddgirlout

I'm a Christian! It's just a book with a particular message that would be an odd association for a child.
Thanks for clarifying!

I thought it was yet another Christian bashing attempt which is so prevalent these days on MN and which quite frankly I’m sick of, so I do get a bit defensive.

I’ve not read the book you’ve mentioned but I suppose every child eventually grows up to be an adult and I can’t see what is wrong with the original biblical character from memory.

LittleRa · 23/12/2020 23:22

The name Jabez means “borne of pain” or “he causes pain” due to his difficult birth in the bible.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 23/12/2020 23:28

Silas, because Eppie in Silas Marner is short for Hepzibah.

RamonaQ · 23/12/2020 23:29

Ephraim?

DecemberDiana · 23/12/2020 23:37

I came on to offer Mehetabel in the same vein.

For boys I can only think Abraham, Nathaniel, Josiah.

jessstan1 · 24/12/2020 00:21

It reminds me of Silas Marner - 'Eppy'. Unusual name but quite nice.

neednames · 24/12/2020 08:36

Some great suggestions thank you! Love Sirius but think HP association is probably too strong now also love Cassius but too close to a very close relatives name sadly
