I'm quite taken with it, do you think it is due a revival?

I love it, but I'm very biased.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 22/12/2020 20:31

Also e ery time I farted or burped as a small child my mother thought it was hilarious to call me windy Wendy. It stuck for years Hmm

Neverbeme · 22/12/2020 20:32

Really bad. I’m amazed anyone likes it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/12/2020 20:51

I think it will eventually make a comeback (along with all the other retro nickname type names eg, Sally, Peggy, Betsy etc) so you will be ahead of the crowd.

Wendy does sound very cute/sweet to me - a lovely little girls name, but I have trouble picturing it on an adult (despite the fact most Wendy's will be 60 plus). But I kind of feel the same about Lucy and Amy and those are popular with all ages, so what do I know! I do like pp suggestion of putting Gwendoline on the birth certificate to give her more options when older though.

CharitySchmarity · 22/12/2020 20:54

I don't love it, but I don't think it's ricidulous, and it's only dated until someone starts using it again!

AppleKatie · 22/12/2020 20:57

The most intimidating and forceful woman I know (in a mostly good way) is called Wendy. She’s an extraordinary public speaker too.

A certain type of person does hiss ‘it’s a made up name you know’ behind her back though Grin

MariaTia · 22/12/2020 23:06

If you'd like to be called it yourself then I guess so, but I know I wouldn't and would say don't do it. I know a Wendy and she doesn't like her name

megletthesecond · 22/12/2020 23:10

Revival!
Gwendoline is also lovely.

FenellaMaxwell · 22/12/2020 23:16

I’d google ‘mumsnet Wendy’ if I were you. Being a Wendy is not a complement!

FuckOffBorisYouTwat · 22/12/2020 23:17

Sorry it is such an ugly name. Poor Wendy was Bendy Wendy in my class

Djouce · 22/12/2020 23:18

It reminds me of John Cleese’s terrifying wife in A Fish Called Wanda, who says ‘A wuh for Wendy!’ when she finds a necklace with a W for Wanda on it.

alexdgr8 · 22/12/2020 23:23

you really like it, that should be enough, if father agrees.
there are no negative connotations.
it's a good name. go with it. good luck to you all.

Happymum12345 · 22/12/2020 23:34

It’s lovely

mammmamia · 22/12/2020 23:34

Really don’t like it and I hate how it looks written down, I just see bendy!
I do like the Gwendoline suggestion though. Gwen is pretty.

Whatthebloodyell · 22/12/2020 23:37

Wendy is nit ready for a comeback.

I love Gwen though.

What about Nancy?

jackstini · 22/12/2020 23:41

Love it, have a SIL Wendy and a long time friend Wendie - born really lovely ladies

I don't know anyone horrible called that name!

caringcarer · 22/12/2020 23:46

I am a Wendy and I would say do not do this to your dd. She will not thank you. There were 3 Wendy's in my school class and I was Wendy S. I am under 60 too.

Takethereigns · 23/12/2020 00:30

Terrible Wendy bird from Peter Pan

ZenNudist · 23/12/2020 00:31

Noooo

Floralnomad · 23/12/2020 00:36

No , it’s awful .

MountDoom · 23/12/2020 00:51

There are some names that will never make a come back. This is one of them.

Apologies to all the Wendy's on this thread!

partyatthepalace · 23/12/2020 02:05

@windthatbobbin

Call her Gwendoline and use as a diminutive?
Great idea!

For crying out loud don’t saddle her w Wendy as a full name. It’s wet and frumpy.
