Nature and Classic Names: Sister for Hazel

Hi all,
I’m trying to decide on names for baby two.

We have a Hazel Elizabeth (last name is two syllable, short and begins with R).

I absolutely love the name Elizabeth and would love to use this as a first name for baby two but husband disagrees as it’s dd’s middle - unless I can find the perfect name combination with middle name!

We really like classic, strong names: think Elizabeth, Nora, Sylvie, Clara. Also love ‘Willow’ but think it’s too on the nose with tree names and would rhyme with our last name ‘oh’ sound.

After all suggestions for middle names for Elizabeth and other strong girls’ names to go with Hazel! Smile

Clover
Stella
Fern (would also work well as a mn for Elizabeth)

Would you consider Leonor (or Leonora) if you like Nora? Or Eleanor? These have the same classic, strong yet feminine feel, without using Hazel's middle name for DD2's first name. However, I love Elizabeth too and think so few people ever know someone's middle name, that it's not a problem having the girls share a beautiful, timeless name.

I quite like Alba. I have a love hate relationship with Autumn but husband likes it!

Dawn is quite a similar name type to Hazel. Nature name rather than tree name.

Scumble · 21/12/2020 12:21

I like Wren.

I like Rowan for a girl.

I love the name Hazel - it's currently in my top three for dd2. I really like Sylvia, and the meaning would fit in with Hazel without being too obvious. Also really like suggestions of pp - Fern, Violet, Rowan and Laurel. How about:

Elowen
Camille
Phoebe
Coralie
Daphne
Opal
Iona
Nell
May
Sybil
Fleur
Rosa
Seren

NeonSparkle · 21/12/2020 12:54

I like Sylvie the best from your suggestions

BigGlasses · 21/12/2020 17:12

I think another nature name (eg Fern or Robyn) would be a bit twee. How about

Sylvia
Annie/Anna
Carrie/Caroline
Hannah

Highfalutinlootin · 21/12/2020 18:38

More votes for Fern and Gaia.

Carrotcakey · 21/12/2020 18:42

I know two Hazels. One has a sister Heather (a bit matcha but it doesn’t seem to bother them) and one has a sister Rose.

I love Autumn and Rosa from those suggested.

Carrotcakey · 21/12/2020 18:42

Fern is fab too actually.

EugeniaGrace · 21/12/2020 18:52

Sylvie and Clara are two of my favourite names. Sylvie is a similar theme as Hazel but not too obvious.

I think my DD1 would have really suited Hazel, but we called her one of the names already mentioned on this thread instead.

Alittlexmasmagic · 21/12/2020 18:53

Amber was my choice to go with Hazel for girl twins x

Ellmau · 21/12/2020 19:10

Rowan

xmasfairybuns · 21/12/2020 19:11

Laurel

Coronaquandry · 21/12/2020 19:37

Hazel is a great name.

I like Sylvia/Sylvie, Rose or maybe Laura (also subtly tree themed) for a sibling.

polkadotpenguin · 21/12/2020 19:39

Oh my god we have the exact same taste! That could seriously be my list. I also like floral names like Iris and Rose.

ivyandthree · 21/12/2020 20:06

Thanks, everyone!

So far I’m loving Opal (though too similar in ending ‘el’ sounds) and Amber.

I love Ivy but husband has veto’d it.

Rose is lovely - timeless and classic, but SO similar to our last name!

I think Hazel and Amber make a lovely pair. What about another middle name beginning with E?

Amber Eleanora
Amber Elodie
Amber Eloise
Amber Emmeline

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/12/2020 20:13

Of your choices - Sylvie (or Sylvia) would be perfect, it's a subtle tree link with Hazel and fits the same style of well-known but not popular.

Other suggestions with subtle nature links: Laura, Bryony, Jessamine/Jessamy, Cassia/Keziah, Rosalind/Rosamund/Rosalie, Coralie.

Traditional suggestions like Elizabeth: Teresa (or Tess/Tessa), Emmeline, Catherine, Adeline (or Ada), Cora, Sybil, Julia, Lydia, Helena, Louisa, Josephine.
