Polly as an alternative to Holly

Well I thought I'd narrowed it down to 3, Matilda, Annabel or Elsie but I still love Holly. I can't use as DH's sister has a dog called Holly and he's a bit funny about it. So what are your thoughts on Polly as an alternative? Not keen on Molly.
Thanks. I would love to make a firm decision soon. 7 weeks to go

Polly is lovely. In my view it's so so much nicer than Holly (and Molly).
From your list I'd be deciding between Polly and Elsie (though Matilda and Annabel are perfectly fine as well) and would probably pick Polly.

My DS2 would have been Polly if he were a DD.

I love it!

DramaAlpaca · 20/12/2020 13:53

I love Polly. With the 'y' ending it ought to be cutesy but for some reason I don't find it so. I much prefer it to Holly and Molly. I'd call her Polly Matilda Smile

SacreBleeeurgh · 20/12/2020 13:53

Infinitely prefer Holly, Annabel or Matilda to Polly or Elsie.

Smallbus1 · 20/12/2020 13:54

Love it. Much nicer than Molly.

PlantPotting · 20/12/2020 14:10

I love Polly

Wellthisismorethanabitgrim · 20/12/2020 14:17

Love it. I know a lot of Hollys and Mollys but only one Polly (and she's an adult). It's a lovely name

daisypond · 20/12/2020 14:21

Polly is much, much nicer than Holly.

Onthetrain75 · 20/12/2020 14:24

Dolly

QuantumJump · 20/12/2020 14:25

Polly is really nice

Ellen35 · 20/12/2020 14:33

Do you like Polly Elizabeth as Elizabeth is DHs fave name

Polly SO much nicer than Holly or Molly!

Really classy x

DulciUke · 20/12/2020 14:37

Sorry, just makes me think of the phrase "Polly want a cracker?", but maybe that's more of an American thing.

AldiAisleofCrap · 20/12/2020 14:39

She will spend her life being asked to put the kettle on.

foodtoorder · 20/12/2020 14:48

Love polly and annabel!

Changethetoner · 20/12/2020 14:56

You could have a Hilly, nn from Hilary. It's quite sweet too/

TildaTurnip · 20/12/2020 15:02

Prolly is great. I only know two: a 40 year old and an 18 year old. Hugely prefer it to Molly.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 20/12/2020 15:32

I like Holly but not keen on Polly as I think of Polly Parrot and Polly put the kettle on. Like Elizabeth, out of other 3 like Annabel the best - don't like Matilda though do like Tilly.

VenusClapTrap · 20/12/2020 16:20

Love Polly! I much prefer it to Holly and Molly.

YoniAndGuy · 20/12/2020 16:21

Polly Elizabeth is absolutely lovely.

Could even go for Polydora Elizabeth if you wanted.

Polly - I think of PJ Harvey so for me it's a cool, adult name which is also cute on a child.

Dislike Polly, really like Matilda or Annabel.

BungleandGeorge · 20/12/2020 17:20

It’s fine, wouldn’t go for it myself and I can’t get away from the parrot association! I prefer Holly, many animals have proper names so you could well meet one called polly at some stage, I wouldn’t let that put you off. Of the others I like Matilda best by a long way

BikeRunSki · 20/12/2020 17:23

Much prefer Polly to Holly. It’s my favourite of all your suggestions.

Carrotcakey · 20/12/2020 17:23

Polly would have been my number 1 choice if it didn’t sound ridiculous with my surname.
In the end we went for Annabel so we have quite similar taste.

june2007 · 20/12/2020 17:25

Yes to Polly.
