They are all good solid names.

James is my favourite but you can't go wrong really.

Of course James is just the English version of Jacob.

  1. Richard
  2. James

I like them all except Jacob (not awful, but not quite my thing and always makes me think of cream crackers!), and have actually used James as a middle name for one of my DC, but I really like the idea of a little Richard. It's such a solid, traditional, strong sounding name and very underused at the moment. People often say you can't use it because of Dick, but Dick hasn't been the most fashionable short form of Richard for about 60 years. He'd get Rich or Richie if anything, but remember you never have to shorten.

Richard James is a nice combination and RJ would even make a fun nickname within the family if you like that style.

Richard James is a great name. I know one. He was going to be James Richard but was born the same year JR was shot in Dallas so it was swapped round.

James
Not keen on the others.

Richard, Daniel, Jacob or James - all great classics.

I think Richard is great but unfortunately you can’t always avoid the nicknames that you don’t want especially when he gets older so I’d veto it for that reason.

I’d go with either Daniel/Jacob with James as a middle name - Jacob James/Daniel James both sound great.

James

I like Jacob or James best.
