Literally nothing seems ‘right’. DD Stella, Esme & Nora.

Expecting DS. We have written down Sebastian but really don’t feel like it’s the one either. Please help!

No Henry/George/Arthur - all friends kids.

Chilldonaldchill · 16/12/2020 09:00

I love Sebastian.
But other names that fit well with your gorgeous girls'names.
Stella, Esme, Norah and....
Amos

Jonathan (Jonty?)
Kit (with Christian or Christopher as a full name?)
Rufus
Angus
Gus
Maxim

diddlediddle · 16/12/2020 09:12

I agree Sebastian doesn't go that well with your other names.

I think with boy names you've got to write down anything you might like or that might go in principle and forget about whether it feels right or not to start with. It's definitely harder to imagine a boy than I girl I think. We waited until DS was born.

I'd say another 2 syllable name:

Rowan
Owen
Leo
Bertram
Victor
Gregor
Freddie
Albert

dementedma · 16/12/2020 12:30

Gabriel
Angus
Laurence
Simon

BiBabbles · 16/12/2020 13:01

I did have fewer boys names on my lists, whereas I know others who struggled more with girls so it seems to be a personal thing.

You've got a lot of lovely suggestions already. Adding on a couple more (thinking short, older names that I haven't seen listed yet):
Gratian
Adwin
Bram
Cenric
Cyrus

BertieBotts · 16/12/2020 13:53

Oh because all boys' names are shit.

They are either boring and nondescript, or way too poncy or just weird.

Not giving examples of any because of course my taste will vary massively to everyone else's and I'm being tongue in cheek. But I found it very easy to find girls' names which exist in a lovely space where they are just interesting, uncommon, pretty and meaningful enough without being weird/annoying/ugly/bizarre. Boys' names seem much harder to find that happy place.

I have found the secret with boys' names is to err on the side of boring/safe. You are more likely to find things the other doesn't hate this way, and the name will become special because it's your son's name, not because of the name itself.

1starwars2 · 16/12/2020 14:18

Your son will likely thank you for a boring name too. DS1 was horrified about the idea of some the more 'out there' names we considered, and is eternally grateful he has a 'normal' name.

janetmendoza · 16/12/2020 14:56

Brian Eric Bernard Raymond Clement John

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/12/2020 20:41

I agree with pp that I'd stick with a 2 syllable well known (but not top 20 popular) to fit with your daughters. So suggestions (apologies for repeats) - Marcus, Felix, Rufus, Adam, Maxim, Owen, Magnus, Toby, Lucian/Lucas, Dylan, Leon, Michael, Rowan, Caleb, Matthew, Samuel.

ShelleyI83 · 16/12/2020 22:15

Thank you ever so much. I agree boys names are shit aren’t they! I really like Joshua and Teddy but Teddy doesn’t go with our surname atoll and a close friend has a Joshua (who would not appreciate us using it!)
I do like Henry but again a friend has a Henry and a kid I went to school with (many moons ago) was called Henry and was dysfunctional to say the least 🤣
