Based on someone’s earlier thread, please can you rate my names out of 10 and if you like give feedback or further suggestions.

2 siblings with short 4 letter names.

In no particular order... (some are mine, some dh’s preference but all ones we could potentially consider)

Ciara
Ava
Elle
Caoimhe
Jessica
Talia

Jack
Jake (not Jacob)
Daniel
Sean
Conor

Also like Aidan, Cian and Adam but can’t use as they don’t work for various reasons.

Ciara 5
Ava 3
Elle 3
Caoimhe 8
Jessica 7
Talia 3

Jack 3
Jake 2

Daniel 8
Sean 10
Conor 6

They are all fine, Caoimhe is nice, will they have Irish roots? My ultimate 3 Irish names are Niamh, Saoirse and Cillian which I think are beautiful

user1493494961 · 14/12/2020 22:40

I really like Jessica, Ava's OK but I don't like any of the other girl's names. I like Daniel, Jack's OK but very popular, and I like Jacob but not Jake. Not keen on Sean or Conor.

tier3tears · 14/12/2020 22:47

@JanewaysBun

Distant Irish roots. One sibling has a name with Irish roots, albeit much easier to spell! Live just outside London and Caoimhe isn’t particularly unusual amongst my DC’s school friends. There’s quite a few Cian’s, Conor’s, Liam’s, Cillian’s, Ciara’s, Niamh’s, Saoirse’s etc.

Ciara 6. - nice enough and seems fairly useable outside Ireland too.
Ava 7. - gorgeous but just too popular (similar Ada would be 8. but Anna is a 10.)
Elle 1. - not as a given name, but fine as a nn (for Eleanor, Helena, Isabelle etc)
Caoimhe 2. -too difficult to spell (unless you live in Ireland, then 7.)
Jessica 8. - Lovely and Shakespearean (although can feel a touch 80's)

Talia 10. - Beautiful, although I prefer the classical Thalia spelling personally.

Jack 9. - Popular but one of the few nn names I like (but still original John would be 10.)
Jake (not Jacob) 1.- I usually dislike nickname names
Daniel 8. - Nice and classic (I'm just not keen on nn Dan)
Sean 7. - Okay but again prefer similar John (unless you are in Ireland).
Conor 2. - Not my taste and will have spelling issues (one N or two)

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 14/12/2020 23:42

Ciara 9/10 - Like it
Ava 9/10 - Like it though a bit harsh sounding
Elle - 3/10 - Not keen, means she in French
Caoimhe - 3/10 - think will have spelling and pronouncation issues
Jessica - 2/10 - don't like at all, think of Jessica Rabbit
Talia - 4/10 - Not that keen on, seems like it should be short for something like Natalia

Jack - 6/10 - fine but a bit bland
Jake (not Jacob) - 6/10 - OK
Daniel - 10/10 Love this name
Sean 4/10 - Never liked
Conor - 4/10 - not keen on

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/12/2020 23:54

For girls I think Talia is the nicest. I also like Tasia, short for Anastasia. Ciara is also lovely and so I'd add Ciaran to your boys list.

Daniel and Jack are the nicest of your boys list, conor is fine but I prefer Cormac. I'm not a fan of Sean and I hate Jake. How about Shay?

Katgolde · 15/12/2020 00:01

Ciara - 8 Lovely
Ava - 5, OK but Ava/Eve/Eva/Evie names have been very popular recently
Elle - 5, sounds incomplete
Caoimhe - 6
Jessica -5 OK but don't like the 'sic' sound
Talia - pretty and unusual

Jack - 2, rather dull as Jack was top boy name for several years in.a row recently
Jake (not Jacob) - 3 Only like as nn for Jacob
Daniel - 9 Really nice, solid, classic name
Sean - 5 OK
Conor - 3 Not keen as too surnamey

Thank you all for the feedback. Will show DJ later and hopefully will help us.

Caoimhe is pronounced Keeva or Queeva in different parts of Ireland. We’d go with Keeva pronounciation.

Thank you for the suggestions too. I’ve added a few but there’s some we’ve discounted due to them being close family names already.

Jessica 3
Talia 7

Jack 7

Ciara - pretty, 7/10
Ava - boring, 3/10
Elle - boring, 4/10
Caoimhe - nice, 8/10
Jessica - ok, 6/10
Talia - slithery sounding, 2/10

Jack - ok, 6/10
Jake (not Jacob) - agree with not Jacob, 6/10
Daniel - great, 8/10
Sean - ok, 5/10
Conor - ok, 7/10

SionnachRua · 15/12/2020 07:34

Ooh with the Keeva pronunciation I'd have to drop Caoimhe to 5/10 though.

Guineapigbridge · 15/12/2020 07:37

Caoimhe 3
Jessica 8

Ava - 9 really pretty but it's so so so popular now
Elle - 2 don't get the appeal
Caoimhe - 7 nice name.
Jessica - 5 bland
Talia - 5 not keen but it's ok

Jack - 6 good solid name
Jake (not Jacob) - 6 quite like this
Daniel - 8 really like Danny
Sean - 8 lovely but a bit dull
Conor - 8 lovely but a bit dull

You can't go too far wrong with any of those names really!

KeeefBurtain · 15/12/2020 07:50

Ciara or Talia from your girls and Conor from your boys.

Kanaloa · 15/12/2020 08:24

Ciara - 9/10, lovely
Ava - 5/10, fine but not special
Elle - 4/10, just not keen
Caoimhe - 5/10, like the sound but think there would be spelling issues. I have a difficult to spell name and it’s annoying at times
Jessica - 9/10, love this like Jessie too
Talia - 8/10, pretty

Jack - 8/10, nice and simple
Jake (not Jacob) - 3/10, like Jacob but not Jake
Daniel - 6/10, ok
Sean - 5/10, find this a bit dated
Conor - 7/10, nice name but I like Connor better

BabloHoney · 15/12/2020 10:10

I have a baby Conor (it is a bit of a marmite name as this thread shows but I love it) and if he’d have been a girl he’d probably have been Jessica so I’d say 10/10 for those names ☺️

I like all your other names too. Ava seems really popular at the moment if that effects your choice, it’s very pretty though. Good luck deciding!

notarabbit · 15/12/2020 11:37

notarabbit · 15/12/2020 11:47

Ciara makes me think of the singer

crosspelican · 15/12/2020 11:56

Going to assume that you're Irish here, because if you're living in England nobody can say Caoimhe!

Ciara 2/10 (I didn't like the Ciara in my class)
Ava 3/10 (bit 2014)
Elle 3/10 (what's it short for?)
Caoimhe 8/10
Jessica 1/10
Talia 6/10

Consider adding:
Aoibhinn
Niamh
Saoirse
Siobhain

Jack 2/10 (again very 2014!)
Jake (not Jacob) Nope - again, a bit of a blast from the (recent!) past
Daniel 6/10
Sean 7/10
Conor 9/10

Consider adding:
Fiachra
Seamus
Iarla
Cathal
Conn
Ferdia
Eamonn

NC10101 · 15/12/2020 11:56

Good:

Ciara
Ava
Elle
Sean
Daniel
Jessica

Bad:
Caoimhe
Talia
Jack
Jake (not Jacob)
Conor
