Just seen it mentioned on here in passing and it struck me as beautiful.

What are your thoughts on Muriel?

No it’s awful.

It's a very dreary, dowdy, unattractive sounding and looking name to me.

I know a lovely Muriel, she has a very sunny disposition which doesn't match my perception of her name at all.

It also makes me think of Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street years ago, with the mural on her wall that she always called her 'murial'

I don’t like it. I thought I didn’t like the mur sound/look but I don’t like Meriel or Mariel either so I don’t know what it is!

My very lovely grandmother was called Muriel. It’s still a hideous name.

Muriel is just so dowdy.

I like it. But ‘You’re terrible Muriel’ would wear pretty thin pretty quickly.

I once heard that someone who was called Muriel had been nicknamed Moo. Which I don't like at all.

Muriel in Muriel's wedding changed her name to Mariel.

The only Muriel I know in real life changed her name to something more modern sounding. I think she is around 80. She is the only person I know to change her first name.
