I would love opinions on our girls names. We still aren't completely sure any of them are the right one but I think I'm at the point where I can't think of any more names!

Agatha
Dorothy
Meredith
Winifred
Gwendolyn
Daphne
Polly
Cora
Tessa
Roberta

Agatha - love this, I have a cousin Agatha who must be a teenager by now, it was adorable when she was little but wearable by all ages imo
Dorothy - not keen
Meredith - ditto, feels dated
Winifred - love this, I know a little Winnie who I can't help but wish had this as a full name
Gwendolyn - I want to like it, but I don't for some reason
Daphne - not keen
Polly - love
Cora - really dislike, I just can't understand the MN love for this name
Tessa - love, and Tess as well
Roberta - prefer Alberta

grandmasterstitch · 12/12/2020 14:41

@elfran Alberta! That's lovely! Going on the list Smile

Agatha
Meredith
Polly
Cora
Tessa

Love all these. Especially Cora & Tessa! The others are too old lady for me. Particularly don't like Winifred as I once knew a particularly spiteful lady with this name.

DramaAlpaca · 12/12/2020 15:50

Interesting list! My favourites are Daphne, Dorothy, Polly and Agatha.

Agnes and Olive are in a similar style.

Macblondie · 12/12/2020 16:33

My favourites from your list are Cora, Polly, Tessa and Roberta. Smile

CakeRattleandRoll · 12/12/2020 16:50

Love Gwendolyn, Daphne, Cora, Tessa.
Prefer Agnes to Agatha.

3rdNamechange · 12/12/2020 16:51

Eleanor ?

TFSRM · 12/12/2020 17:02

Agatha - love it
Dorothy - not keen
Meredith - not keen
Winifred - love it
Gwendolyn - not keen
Daphne-not keen
Polly - like it
Cora - not keen
Tessa - like it
Roberta - not keen

GlitterBiatch · 12/12/2020 17:06

Cordelia - with Cora for short?
I also love Meredith - could use Mere, Edith or Edie as a nickname.
I prefer Gweneth to Gwendolyn

Chilldonaldchill · 12/12/2020 17:24

Agatha - I don't mind it. It feels current in an old-lady-chic way without being popular. Aggie is an ok nickname.
Dorothy - I like this
Meredith - I LOVE this
Winifred - it's ok. I'm not a huge fan
Gwendolyn - I don't like this. It reminds me of Mallory towers and she wasn't a nice character. I don't dislike Gwen though.
Daphne - not keen
Polly - I like this a lot
Cora - it's ok
Tessa - I LOVE this
Roberta - I like this for The Railway Children but I'm not sure I love it for itself

Great list!

CantStopEatingPie · 12/12/2020 17:26

People have been all over Tessa and Tess on MN recently. I predict a steep rise in popularity.

Nessa? Bessie?

@Chilldonaldchill Gwendolyn Mary from Malory Towers is one of the reasons I'm not totally sold. DH hasn't read them so doesn't have that connection

AliceMcK · 12/12/2020 17:34

Agatha - love love love, we almost went with Agatha, the only reason we didn’t was our second option sounded better with the middle name we wanted.
Dorothy - Also love but DH wasn’t as keen.
Meredith - so so
Winifred -not really
Gwendolyn - not really
Daphne - again not really
Polly - nice
Cora - really like
Tessa - nice
Roberta - nice

YellowPostItPad · 12/12/2020 17:34

Dorothy (Dottie/Dot as a nickname). So sweet.

Also:
Olive
Enela
Tulah
Isolde
Joy

Unicant · 12/12/2020 17:40

Absolutely love: Dorothy, Agatha, Gwendolyn, Winifred, cora, and Polly

Quite like: Daphne and Meredith

Not so keen on: Tessa and Roberta... but I dont hate them or anything.. I like all the names you have chosen. Older style names are lovely!

Perhaps consider: Mabel, Edith, Thomasin, Albertine, Constance, Enola

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/12/2020 18:14

Agatha - love it and love nn Aggie. I also love Agnes which may suit your tastes

Dorothy - lovely, though slightly prefer Dorothea

Meredith - love it

Winifred - really nice. Love Winnie or Freddie on a girl

Gwendolyn - not my favourite, I find it a bit clunky but nice enough. Jocelyn has a similar feel

Daphne - not a fan at all, my least favourite of your names

Polly - pretty but not sure I'd want to be called Polly

Cora - I'm not a fan. I've met a few baby Cora's and it just never feels right

Tessa - lovely

Roberta - lovely. Love Bobbie, though not Robbie. Albert a has a similar feel

OneKeyAtATime · 12/12/2020 18:26

Not keen on Meredith, Roberta and cora but like the rest

Whenwillow · 12/12/2020 18:31

I love the return of all the older names! The only one on there I don't like is Meredith. Just a bit of a mouthful. My favourites are Dorothy and Polly I think. I'd love to have had an Agnes. Gwendolyn reminds me of the Malory Towers books too.
How about Darrell instead 😂

CatRamsey · 12/12/2020 19:31

Cora is my favourite of those by a mile. I do like Tessa and Dorothy too.

PortalooSunset · 12/12/2020 19:41

I wanted a Dorothy (but only had boys) so that goes to the top of your list for me. Roberta sounds like 'we wanted a boy' to me.
Names that were also on our list were Sophie, Agatha, Edith, Florence, Daisy and Mabel but Dorothy was my number one!

SugarCanes · 12/12/2020 20:08

I like Tessa
