Samara?

What are your opinions on the name Samara? I would love to use it, but I'd love to know peoples' opinions!

Well, clearly not ‘absolutely not’ since people do have the name, and many of us on this thread have never heard of the movie.

I've never heard of The Ring. I taught a Samara once. I have no strong feelings about the name either way.

Samara is a beautiful name. I’ve never seen the Ring movies and don’t feel like the name Samara is so associated with it, the way that even if you’ve never seen Child’s Play you know who Chucky is. I like Samira, too.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought of Ladas.

I had a boyfriend who proudly drove one and thought he was the epitome of style... It was the most dreadful car.

Younger people won’t make that association, though.

We have a Sameira in our school too which is pretty.

I thought of the perfume but that’s Samsara. I would assume Samara was an Arabic/Indian name seeing it written down so would assume a little girl with that heritage. It sounds quite pretty. (I don’t know the film the Ring though so wouldn’t have that association )

Like many others I immediately thought of the creepy girl from the ring. She is possibly the scariest child in any horror movie ever. So definite NO from me.

Samara is a lovely choice. I agree with pps that she’ll probably get Sam, Sammy or Mara as nicknames, but I love all of those nicknames too.

This is the first time I’ve seen a Samara thread, but I’m guessing people’s opinions probably haven’t changed since the last time they were asked to share what they thought of the name.

‘Weirder’ would be if you were getting the complete opposite opinions, surely.

It's very pretty, although I don't like the NN Sam (no offence!) and would be wary of that.

I love it but then think of the ring and have to hide from my telly🤣

I've seen the ring and didn't know this was the name, I don't think you should let that put you off.
It's a lovely name but will likely get shortened to Sam and people will probably assume Samantha but if you're ok with that I'd go for it 👍

I don’t know The Ring connection. I think it’s lovely and Sam, Sammy as nicknames are lovely too.

I’ve taught one and she was a lovely girl. Never seen the ring and don’t remember her getting any bother for her name. She was bright and popular though which obv helps.
