Ruhi is pronounced roo-hee...love the meaning, 'spiritual'.

Another similar name is Aruhi
and also Rohini and Ruhani but my fav is Ruhi out of all of these.. what is the verdict?

Ruhi sounds like it should be a nickname for Ruairidh (and spelling variations of). Could you not use Ruhani and nn Ruhi / Ru?
Aruhi has too many vowels in it for me, I'm struggling to pronounce it!
Rohini is ok, although my first thought was "that's the stuff you make hummus with" but that's tahini (it's been a long day!).
Are these boys names?

@emmathedilemma I think using Ruhani could work, Ruhi does look a but incomplete on its own but i like how it's short and sweet. These are girls names.

I know a lovely cool 30yo Ruhi - I say go for it!

@milienhaus Thats's great! I thought it was fairly rare but good to know that you know someone with that name :) Has she ever had any pronunciation issues?

I like Ruhi, not heard it before but would have pronounced it exactly as you said. I know a Rohini who is very cool and talented so like that too!

meera454 · 13/12/2020 18:15

@elfran Ah that's great to know! Love the name Rohini as well as Ruhani, but Rohini is higher up on the list. I like Ruhi for its simplicity and it somewhat sounds a lot more modern to me than Rohini. Such a tough decision!

I don't like it sorry. Feels a bit twee and trendy.

meera454 · 14/12/2020 09:01

@LiteratureMichigan Is the sound of the name like that for you or how it looks written down? Would you think the same thing if you saw the name Rohini or Ruhani?

It just sounds trying very hard to be different. There's nothing wrong with it but there's nothing particularly interesting or attractive about it.

It is the kind of name that appears when people search and search every obscure name list to get something no one else will have used.

Not meant to sound mean or horrid sorry. But if you wanted to know what impression the name would give, it would be that - that the parents wanted to be unique and as different as possible.

Sounds like Rui which is a common name on Portugal, so not weird.

Audreyseyebrows · 14/12/2020 11:53

I really love it

Audreyseyebrows · 14/12/2020 11:54

And wouldn’t have trouble with pronouncing it

drspouse · 14/12/2020 11:59

I know a Ruhi who is middle aged, and an Indian Muslim. She is lovely and it's a lovely name but I wouldn't go for it if you aren't from that culture.
