No boys names I love

Found out we are having a lovely boy! But I don't love any boys names.. names we like but either not 100% on or can't use for various reasons are

Harry
Max
Jack
Ellis
Leo

We have another boy with a top 10 name already, which I didn't know was so popular when we had him but we seem to like popular names anyway when I'd rather not!

Middle name is possibly Stephen, so trying to avoid names ending in N as I don't think they sound quite right together.

Can anyone suggest anything similar please?

You don't have to 'love' a name. You'll love the child and then you'll love the name because it's theirs.

Thanks, some nice suggestions to think about Smile I know we don't have to love it, but I'd like to have a stronger feeling then "it's alright" and I feel like I'm looking at the same names over and over again.

Harry is probably my favourite but I've just started reading Harry Potter with DS and feel like I'll hate it by the end of the book Grin

Actually Ellis is my favourite but DD has the initials EE and I was trying to avoid matching 2 DC and not the other one as stupid as that sounds out loud!

Popular/well known but not top 10 names (and fairly short which seems to be your style?) that I don't think have been mentioned yet -
Jacob (Jake)
Adam
Zack (or Zachary/Isaac)
Lucas/Luke
Marcus/Mark
James (nn Jamie?)
Henry (nn Harry?)
Joseph (Joe)
Elias (nn Eli?)
Caleb

Firebird83 · 09/12/2020 15:23

Henry Stephen?

PlantPotting · 09/12/2020 17:23

Ellis is really lovely you should use that
Using a first name you love is more important than this initial scenario you mention

MikeUniformMike · 09/12/2020 18:13

Don't worry about the middle name as it will seldom be used.

Something like Ryan Stephen Post will be Ryan Post most of the time.

resm · 09/12/2020 18:50

Noah
Joseph
James
Ben
Oliver
Liam

Totally empathise OP

I’m pregnant with number 2. Pretty sure it’s another boy. We’ve already used the only boys name we both love.

My pregnancy’s are shit. I get super poorly and down so it’s important to me to ‘love’ a name.

I have a few really reasonable, traditional names that fit well with my DS’s name but DH just rejects them all and throws up ridiculous options that don’t match!

Imagine our current DS is called George.

Me:
Oliver
James
Henry
Thomas
William

DH:
Reginald
Graham
Ragnar
Archibald

I’m starting to resent DH over it.

FirstPost99 · 09/12/2020 20:44

Oh @Pumpertrumper I'm sorry, your DHs names did make me chuckle! Graham?!

I remember when naming DD I kept suggesting names that DH hated then days later he would suggest the same names and say he liked them! Had no memory of me suggesting them first. Naming babies would be much easier to do alone Grin

Thank you for all your suggestions, will run a few by DH.

If this is your concern (and I don't think it does sound silly) could you use the same initial as your ds's name for the MN? So that they both feel they have "the same"? (I have the same initials as one of my siblings. The other was very put out all the way through our childhood).
IckleBear · 10/12/2020 08:01

Torin Stephen
Ronny Stephen
Elias Stephen

Roselilly36 · 10/12/2020 08:15

Congratulations OP. We were the same with our first DS’ name, really struggled to find a name we both loved.

We brought a name book, started going through it and found a name we both loved. Perhaps give that a try. My DS is 19 now and his name really suits him and we still love it just as much.

Good luck

Hugo

Pumpertrumper · 11/12/2020 19:18

@FirstPost99

Tell me about it!

Just today he got defensive over graham again! ‘It’s a perfectly good name!’ And ‘it’s a family name!’ ... so is William btw but Ofc he’s not fussed about using that!

Think we might have come to an agreement on Charles! We both like that! Yay
