Florence or Maisie?

DP and I have narrowed down girls names to two; I picked one, he picked the other but we agree that we love both! We have stuck to these two for weeks and never come closer to a decision.
Please help me choose between them. It's important to me it has Pearl in.

Florence Pearl Mills
Maisie Rose Mills (Maisie means Pearl)

If baby is a boy he'll be called George.

Florence. Beautiful name - I know a baby Florence and think it's so sweet, but it was also the name of my grandmother, who lived into her 90s. Classy - pretty without being too frilly. Not too popular.

I dislike Maisie - very nicknamey, cutesy and pretty trendy at the moment, so will date horribly I think. I think May is nice though, and underused as a first name.

Florence, it's elegant and works well on a child and adult.

Maisie is very cute but it sounds a little like a children's book character with the surname. I would probably only use Maisie as a nickname of Mairead or Margaret.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 08/12/2020 20:43

Another vote for Florence. I'm really not keen on Maisie or names with alliteration.

ExeterMummaMia · 08/12/2020 21:08

Florence 100%

So many "ie" names for girls recently ... it seems everyone has an Evie, Maisie, Daisy, Ellie, Lillie, Callie, Millie, Edie etc. Florence is a beautiful name which will stand out a bit more.

plumpootle · 08/12/2020 21:16

Florence - absolutely classic and beautiful. Maisie is a bit cartoonish and twee.

Quercus3 · 09/12/2020 16:56

Florence Pearl is perfect, Maisie Rose is nice but Florence is just miles better 💚

BungleandGeorge · 09/12/2020 17:56

Not keen on Florence and flo is awful. Maisie is not a new name, there’s plenty of adults called Maisie, daisy, Elsie etc, I don’t think they sound particularly young.
If I was you I’d go for Pearl as the actual name though

DramaAlpaca · 09/12/2020 22:17

Florence by a million miles.

I can't stand Maisie, it's just so twee.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 09/12/2020 23:10

Florence although l like Maisie l think Florence is my fave of the two. Not a fan of Pearl, where l live, people pronounce it "Pell"🙈

IckleBear · 10/12/2020 07:49

Maisie is lovely!

AcrobaticCardigan · 10/12/2020 08:02

Both lovely makes but Florence Pearl Mills is gorgeous! Lovely ring to it.

JanetHorne · 10/12/2020 08:42

If Maisie ticks your "must include Pearl" box, why not Florence Maisie Mills?

I think Florence Maisie Mills sounds lovely! I'm not so keen on Florence Pearl, because I think the repeated "r" and "l" is a bit of a tongue twister, though that could be my accent (Scottish, with a pronounced "r").

JanetHorne · 10/12/2020 08:45

Also, I know three Maisies, one child and two very capable adult women. It doesn't sound girly or twee to me.

icedaisy · 10/12/2020 08:51

It's funny I have a Maisie. I adore her name and she is such a Maisie. My worry was that it would appear old or elderly as she as named after my eighty four your old gran who passed away weeks before she was born. So in my head I never thought of it as a little person name just an older person.

BungleandGeorge · 10/12/2020 14:05

As people have pointed out it’s worth considering how regional accents will affect the name. Pearl will vary quite a bit (not necessarily in a good way!). The other 2 less so- probably?

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 10/12/2020 14:26

Love both but slightly prefer Florence.

Florence Maisie Mills?

Florence Pearl also lovely though. I know two sisters called Florence and Pearl!
Maisie is lovely but Maisie Rose is a bit meh IMO.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 10/12/2020 14:28

Hadn’t thought of the regional pronunciation of Pearl. Pill, Peril, Puhl.

mamablondie33 · 16/12/2020 20:43

Florence! 100%

Maisie is nice but I have heard is mispronounced/confused with ‘Macie’ which is a totally different kind of name.

VenusClapTrap · 17/12/2020 09:33

Pearl is beautiful, I’d go with Pearl Mills.

I don’t like Maisie at all.

Chilldonaldchill · 17/12/2020 09:45

Florence Pearl is lovely.
Florence Maisie would work as well.

itssquidstella · 17/12/2020 10:11

Florence. Maisie feels twee and unfinished to me.

lilly2000 · 17/12/2020 21:11

Both are gorgeous! But I’d pick Florence bit different !

Thismustbelove · 18/12/2020 01:41

I dislike Florence. It is not a pretty name nor would I say its a 'classic'.

Although its not a new name, it had a bit of a revival and the age of a Florence born from 2010 will be easy to date.

The nicknames Flo, Flossy and Florry are all bad too.

And it is a boy's name in Ireland.
