What are your opinions on Simon? I quite like it although it is a bit old fashioned.

It's one of my favourite boys names, I'm not sure why as I usually like more unusual names. I used it as a middle name for my youngest.

Do you like Silas as an alternative?

Good name. It would be refreshing nowadays.

You know I actually think one of the things that is interesting about "classic" names like this is you get responses guided by how people feel about the people they have known of that name more than you get responses to the name itself, as you do with newer/trendier names. I have a Simon in my extended family who is a lovely man, and I also have a huge soft spot for Simon Tam of Firefly, so it's no wonder I have a soft spot for it as a name

Yes I would far far rather hear of a newborn little Simon than another Freddie or Arlo.
