My DH like both, we know they’re very different styles. What do you think when you hear these names?

I like both. They are quite different styles though.

I only know 1 Romy and her name is pronounced Rom ee.

I know quite a few Emma's.

I think Emma is probably an unusual choice these days so there won’t be many - unlike in the 80s when there were loads in every school.

Yika · 04/12/2020 22:38

These are both lovely names. Emma is timeless, classic, suits anyone. Romy is unusual but also very simple and classy. (I’d pronounce it rommy).

@missmouse101 I feel the same. Emma is boring to me, like Sarah or Claire.
Nothing offensive meant at all as people could say the same about my choices.

Romy is beautiful. But I like it

How about combining them to make Emmie?

Nell96 · 04/12/2020 23:13

Emma is pretty and classic, but perhaps a little dull. I'm really not sure about Romy - pronunciation issues and just feels a bit insubstantial to me. I really like Roma though, and also Rowan and Rosa.

EugenesAxe · 04/12/2020 23:17

Like both but as PP has said, Romily over Romy.

Porridgeoat · 05/12/2020 01:18

Hannah is also nice

taleforthetimebeing · 18/12/2020 23:52

Romy - lovely name but biased because I have one. Grin We pronounce it Rom-ee.

Chilldonaldchill · 19/12/2020 11:04

Emma. It's pretty, not common but classic.
I really dislike Romy (which I would pronounce roam-ee) probably because the ones I've met have been unpleasant.

Palavah · 19/12/2020 11:07

I'm not American but would have assumed it pronounced 'roam-ee'.

What about Romilly?

GintyMcGinty · 19/12/2020 11:07

Emma

VenusClapTrap · 19/12/2020 11:14

I’m with missmouse on Emma.

I don’t like Romy either, to be honest. Love Rosemary though!

Enko · 19/12/2020 11:58

Of the two Romy

Emma to me equals Anne and Jane in dullness and lacking imagination

WingingItSince1973 · 19/12/2020 12:13

I'm an Emma and didn't meet many Emmas growing up. I was actually names after Emma Peel from the avengers (70s child ha ha). Its seems to be getting more popular. I must admit I prefer Emma over Romy. But then I have a grandson called Rupert so that's not everyone's taste either 🤣

Emmgrem · 20/12/2020 01:01

FWIW my name is Emma and I've always liked my name and appreciated my parents calling me that. Even when there were a few other Emma's at school.
I like that you can't really date it, as it was around in Jane Austen's era but then still makes the top 50 names today. So you can't place how old someone called Emma is like you can with a Lauren, or Debbie or Joan 😉

Emmgrem · 20/12/2020 01:01

@WingingItSince1973 my parents insisted I was named after Jane Austen's Emma, but my dad loved Emma Peel in the Avengers 😂😂

WingingItSince1973 · 20/12/2020 17:15

@Emmgrem ha ha. I'm just so glad I wasn't a boy as mum would have called me after Mark Anthony, she had a Cleopatrick phase too 😅
