Was reading up on the name and supposedly it's a brand of tampon in Aus (if I'm not mistaken, just a skimread).

Maybe Florence / Flossie?

Guineapigbridge · 02/12/2020 22:25

No because it was a brand of tampons when I was growing up.

Nice enough name otherwise.

DramaAlpaca · 02/12/2020 22:27

Whether I like it depends on the accent of the person saying it.

Biggles001 · 02/12/2020 22:28

It's my middle name and I hated it when I was growing up. Having all the other girls sniggering because my name meant flower.
But now I'm older, I quite like it!!

Megan2018 · 02/12/2020 22:28

I really like it, but had a pony named it, so it’s not a baby name for me-I just see a very pretty Welsh A Smile
It’s still a human name obviously- just in my head it’s always a pony!

merlotormalbec · 02/12/2020 22:29

My top baby name if I have a girl. I know of one who is in her late thirties. I love it

LolaSmiles · 02/12/2020 22:30

I like it. I've only met one Fleur and she was lovely.

MercyBodle · 02/12/2020 23:44

I like it. Neat, understated and smart, rarely used but known. Sounds very attractive. I like its distinctness.

Yika · 02/12/2020 23:49

I like it, it’s pretty but not frilly.

Firebird83 · 03/12/2020 00:05

Also much prefer Flora.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/12/2020 00:07

It's fine but in my accent its just the "slang" for flower.

meOwe · 03/12/2020 00:10

My DD is a Fleur 😊

foxyroxyyy · 03/12/2020 00:10

Ginny would call her phlegm.

Allfour1 · 03/12/2020 11:28

Appreciate the feedback about accents. It seems to sound fine with ours but I can't actually imagine what it sounds like in any other accents now I've said it too many times in my head.

I love that description @MercyBodle that's how it sounds to me too. I can't think of any other that have that same distinctiveness that Fleur does.

I teach an 18 year old Fleur who is an absolute delight. And actually, almost everyone comments on whag a pretty name it is

VinylDetective · 03/12/2020 11:43

Such a pretty name. I love it.

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 03/12/2020 11:44

I love Fleur
And Freya
And Flora

Champy87 · 03/12/2020 15:23

Love it! As PPs have said cute flower association for a little girl but smart and elegant as an older woman.

It was on my name list for DD but I was talked out of it and have a bit of name regret. Fingers crossed I get to use it one day.

VenusClapTrap · 03/12/2020 16:43

Love it. It was on my name list.

SionnachRua · 03/12/2020 16:45

No from me. Looks beautiful written down but I don't like it when spoken.

MerryMarigold · 03/12/2020 16:46

I'm another who doesn't like the sound at all said in an English accent (any of them!). Reminds me of Eurghhhh.

BiggerBoat1 · 03/12/2020 16:49

Love it!

tsmainsqueeze · 03/12/2020 17:02

I think it sounds pretentious ,[ my mother suggested it when i was having my daughter !] unless you are french .

CorpusCallosum · 03/12/2020 17:43

I love it. I have a friend called Fleur and think it's lovely to say, not 'bleurgh' at all. She's beautiful, clever and cool too 😉 x

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/12/2020 18:04

I don't like the sound of Fleur, sorry. I don't mind the similar sounding Fern so much though, and I like Flora.
