Georgia and pronunciation?

What does everyone think of the name Georgia? I've also heard it pronounced with the 'ia' slightly pronounced, as if it has 3 syllables. How would you pronounce it?

Jor-jah. Never heard it pronounced with 3 syllables.

LemonDrizzles · 29/11/2020 05:10

I would assume it's pronounced how Ray Charles sings in Georgia on my mind.

Jor ja

Two syllables

ElGuardiandenoche · 29/11/2020 05:39

I have one friend who is pronounced Georg ee ah and the other is pronounces her name George ah. Both are spelt Georgia.

So it really depends on how you want to pronounce it really.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 29/11/2020 05:39

Jor-ja. Absolutely. The state. The name. Two syllables. Jor-ja. Not Jorg-ah.

Every Georgia/Georgina/Georgette I've ever met has just been called George, so that's something to consdier.

To me George is Britain's Most Boring Name so I personally would be wary of inadvertently giving it to my daughter.

juleypooly · 29/11/2020 21:17

Also on my list. But is it chavy?

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2020 21:33

Jorja

Firebird83 · 29/11/2020 21:54

Two syllables. Don’t like it though. Georgina is much nicer.

user1493494961 · 30/11/2020 11:26

I've never heard it pronounced with three syllables.

GanderousGoose · 30/11/2020 20:08

On my list. Love it. Never, ever heard it with three syllables and I'm a teacher so have taught a fair few Georgia's! Definitely Jor-ja.

june2007 · 30/11/2020 20:13

It,s not a miidnight train to George-ee-a. Nice name, how about Georgiana. or Georgina if not sure. Or a friend has a Georgie.

Changeythenamey · 02/12/2020 19:39

It’s a lovely name. A pal has a little girl called Georgia and she gets called Gee.

LolaSmiles · 02/12/2020 22:32

I didn't know it could be pronounced with 3 syllables. It's always been George-ah or george-uh to me.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 02/12/2020 22:44

Well I regret reading this thread after some of the comments! Grin if you want my completely unbiased and completely correct view, it's two syllables, and it's a lovely name! And Georgina and Georgiana are no more and no less "classy". They're all Greek and mean "farmer", basically.

CharitySchmarity · 05/12/2020 22:07

It has 3 syllables for me, which is why I would never use it even though I quite like it, because I hear a lot of people pronouncing it another way. I also like Georgette, which can only be pronounced one way!

RuthW · 05/12/2020 22:38

My dd is 24. She asked me when she was 6 why she wasn't called Georgia as she had 7 friends with the name.

zigaziga · 06/12/2020 12:13

George-a

Love it
