Girls names ending in EE-ah?!

I'm trying to think of girls names with a similar sound to Lucia, Mia, Sophia.

I should say I'm keen the emphasis is on the EE-ah sound at the end - i.e. not names like Amelia, Olivia, where the emphasis is on other parts of the name? If that makes sense!

Essentially Loos-EE-ah and Sof-EE-ah,
rather than Ah-meal-ya and Oh-liv-ya, as I love those too but can't handle them in my local accent!

Any suggestions?

Lucia is Loo-chee-a

I think you'd have a lot of correcting to do

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 22/11/2020 19:48

@MikeUniformMike I don’t understand what you mean? I say Olivia as oliv-EE-a. The OP said that she thinks it’s said oliv-yah. Others have suggested Lydia- presumably with an ee-ah at the end but in our family it’s lyd-yah.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 22/11/2020 19:49

Or more accurately lyd-yer

LemonsYellow · 22/11/2020 19:54

@TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet
Are you sure you say Olivia like that? With the stress on the -vi? I’ve never heard of anyone ever pronouncing it anything like that, in life or in film/TV. The stress always goes on the -liv.

MikeUniformMike · 22/11/2020 20:13

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet - i used uppercase to indicate where the stress falls when you say it.

Mary - would be MAIR-ee
Marie - would be Muh-REE
Maria - Muh-REE-a

Sophie - SO-fee
Sophia - So-FEE-ah

Olive - OL-iv
Olivia - o-LIV-ee-a

but you say Olivia to rhyme with Maria and Sophia? I doubt it.

HunkyPunk · 23/11/2020 10:02

Lydia is a lovely name, but the stress is LYD ee ah, rather than the Lyd EE ah which the op would prefer!

janaus50s · 23/11/2020 10:09

Andrea, does that work?

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 23/11/2020 11:33

@MikeUniformMike I don’t think they rhyme, but I don’t put the stress on LIV in Olivia. I put it on the -IA. Or rather via. Like in Maria- in my (northern) accent the stress falls on ria rather than Ma.

Lucia is not Loo-see-ah. It’s Loo-chee-ah
Only if you're looking at it as the Italian name. Loos-see-ah is perfectly acceptable.
