Thoughts ? It would of been DC2's name if she was a boy we didn't find out baby's sex before the birth.

It's one of those names I like but I wouldn't use. I think it suits characters in fiction better than real people. But maybe could still work. I think Con or Corrie work at nicknames.

I think it's a bit OTT tbh. I think it wouks be tricky to pull off, unless your DS turned out to be super confident.

I had an Uncle Cornelius, everyone called him Cor. It suited him, but he was an affluent middle class man 50+.

Not sure how it would work on a baby.

Not sure how it would work on a baby.

But they are naming a ^person," not a baby.

I do really like it for some reason even though I can't imagine using it myself.

Where I’m from, Cornelius is always Con (also knew a male Connie) - I love Con!

I quite like it. A bit long, but characterful.

I like it but it did make me think of Planet of the Apes.
My favourite was Galen.

Always seems to be someone's Uncle, I can't imagine it on a child.

Report
MikeUniformMike · 17/11/2020 12:36

The uncle was almost certainly a child once.

I quite like it but it would be hard to carry off. Could you use it as a middle name?

Con is nice.

Cornelia nn. Connie or Corrie is probably easier to use.

I think it's ok for an old man - I picture the wise old elephant in Babar books. For a child, not really. How about Julius?

I hate it. The one I know is now 8 and it's never grown on me.

It does sound like a foot condition. Imagine being at the bar and calling out Cornelius, just no!

It was my great grandfather's name!

I like it, but wouldn’t use it. Old classical name. A name I tend to associate with the Dutch. I’d be worried about Corny.

Anyone else think of Cornelius Fudge? It's a no from me, sorry OP

Ah the hate on here makes me sad! Use it OP! I talk from experience of having it as a name..

My son is called Cornelius! Third son so we had already used a lot of other boys' names we liked.

We have Irish background, where the name is more popular, but even so when my dad suggested it, we put it at the bottom of our list.

Then when DS3 was born, quickly and loudly, we couldn't make any other name fit! He just wasn't Gabriel, Dashiell, Raphael, Robin, Seth - he really was Cornelius!

He is now 4, a very loud but super kind kid, with wild hair and a strong will. People say he 'owns' his name. It certainly seems to suit him!

Nickname tricky though I imagine Con when older. His older brothers still call him Kit sometimes because they thought he was scrunched-up eyes closed tight like a kitten when he was a baby.

It’s a popular name in my family history but all of them use the shorter version, Con, with the exception of my brother who is known as Neil.

No, really don’t like how it sounds or the nicknames

I am usually a bit name sniffy, I like this one. I like Con as a nickname. I think I prefer Delius (though now it's written I realise I don't like how it looks!).
