Am I being silly?

A while ago we named our daughter Emily Rose surname. Both my partner and I have always liked the name Emily but we are also aware its been popular for a long time and will mostly likely go to school with other Emilys, my partner picked her middle name and although I think is perfectly fine I have moments of regret, thinking we should of picked something else, I have considered changing it but then think its probably pointless as she will very rarely use her middle name. So my question is.. am I overthinking this or should we change her middle name?

The film is not a problem - it's not that well known and Emily Rose is a common enough name that most people wouldn't make the connection.

I wouldn't change her name personally. Emily is a classic and popular for a reason - it suits every age, shouldn't date and has a pleasant enough sound. Rose is gorgeous and although overused in the middle spot, most people won't be aware of Emily's middle name.

If she dislikes her first name when she's older (because she meets a lot of Emily's or something), she can go by Rose instead or the Emme/ Milly nn's. You're over thinking unless you really dislike the name Emily now for some reason.

Thankyou everyone, I do believe I am overthinking it, or like one person said I could have post natal depression thats possibly causing this regret. Either way I doubt I will make any changes to her name, thankyou for the reassuring messages.

I went to school with a girl whose first name is Emily-Rose.

--(she was annoyingly gorgeous)--

Emily Rose is a lively name

I have seen the film (scared me so much I will not have the film in my house) but I didn't actually think of the film until I read PP.

I would stick with it. It is very pretty

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 11/11/2020 18:02

*lovely

inappropriateraspberry · 11/11/2020 20:03

I've never heard of the film, and doubt many people have!
I imagine an Emily Rose to have long golden curls for some reason. 😆

Squeakerfoot · 11/11/2020 20:23

@TheNanny23

London. I know three Emmi's (well, with various spellings) and two of them are really Emmeline. The other is just Emmi as a stand-alone name. I only know older Emily's.

DrIrisFenby · 11/11/2020 20:29

Don't give it another moment's thought. Emily Rose is beautiful.

I also had worries for a couple of months about DD1's name and whether we had chosen well but now I look at her and think it suits her completely!

If it helps, I have been volunteering with Reception/Yr1 age children for the past few years. Emily is definitely not a popular name at the moment where I am!

DramaAlpaca · 11/11/2020 20:31

It's a perfectly nice name.

villamariavintrapp · 11/11/2020 20:38

It's a nice name. But did make me think of the film. I'd maybe add another middle name if it bothers you, but it's ok not to also.

Liliatori · 11/11/2020 23:29

I definitely think your overthinking it Emily Rose is gorgeous I absolutely love the name Rose 🌹

ANoTail · 11/11/2020 23:37

It's a nice name, there's no need to change it.
People are interesting in their own right, they don't need unusual names to be so.

Fromthebirdsnest · 12/11/2020 14:46

I don't know any little Emily's at all only adults , it's a lovely name x

gingerbreadfox · 12/11/2020 15:39

@unicornparty

It's the name of the horror film 'the exorcism of Emily Rose'. I thought that was what you were going to say. Is Rose her middle name? If so nobody will say it in everyday life anyway.
This! But certainly kids will not have heard of the film. She may get comments as an adult though
Antonin · 12/11/2020 17:43

I’d add a third name for peace of mind and because I like 3 initials.

colourmylife · 13/11/2020 20:29

I did think of the film straight away and have always done so when I’ve seen the name Emily Rose being used. I do agree with the other posters that no one will call her by her first and middle name together so it doesn’t really matter. She is known as Emily which is a perfectly nice and normal name so please don’t worry.

IKEA888 · 13/11/2020 20:33

I have a 12 yea told Emily... only one in nursery and no other Emily a in her class in Primary and I think after her 3rd year of primary none in the school of 200 kids.
secondary no other Emily's in any of her classes.
I know it's not what youbare asking but I thought she would be one of many.
my youngest son has a v unusual name or so we thought and he's one of three in his nursery!!!! And all 3 live in same street.

OwlOne · 13/11/2020 20:37

i think Emily was super popular 15-20 years ago.

My daughter is 17 and she does talk about Emily B, Emily-Rose, Emily from Drama, Emily D etc when she is describing who she's going out with!

It's not a baby name any more.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 13/11/2020 20:38

Its a beautiful name but my first thought was the horror film, but I'm 30.

KyraGoose · 13/11/2020 20:38

Overthinking.

alexdgr8 · 13/11/2020 20:43

the name is fine.
leave it alone.
don't add anything.
stop being silly. relax.

scrivette · 13/11/2020 20:53

Emily Rose is lovely and I hadn't heard of the film before. I know lots of children and only one Emily who is 4.

finallychangedmyusername · 14/11/2020 08:33

Emily is a gorgeous name (one of my top choices actually). Rose is lovely too, but it is overused as a middle name with this generation IMO. Your daughter definitely won't hate you for a name like this, it's a great name. (Although half the girls in her class will possibly have Rose as a middle name).

But I do agree, adding a second middle that's more unusual would be an option, and would eradicate the links to The Exorcism of Emily Rose (which is what crossed my mind when I clicked this thread, sorry).

I quite like these combos, if these are helpful (I think if you add a name with the emphasis on the second syllable most flow well).

Emily Rose Hermione
Emily Rose Cordelia
Emily Rose Fiona
Emily Rose Georgina
Emily Rose Persephone
Emily Rose Jemima
Emily Rose Belinda
Emily Rose Natalia
Emily Rose Eliza
Emily Rose Alexandra
Emily Rose Adrianna
Emily Rose Isadora (providing surname doesn't start with a C)

I really love Emily Rose Natalia and Emily Rose Jemima.

But, again, Emily Rose is a fine name as it is. Smile
