Updated our list now we know we are having a boy... narrowed it down to 4.

Caleb James
Evan James
Parker James
Rowan James

Surname is 2 syllables and begins with T.

Rowan is my least favourite, wanted to take it off the list but will keep it on here for now.

Evan James is by far the best. Love it.
Caleb is nice.
I don't like Parker ( nosey) or Rowan ( feminine). Sorry.

VioletSunset · 10/11/2020 22:15

Love Caleb! Not keen on the rest

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/11/2020 22:16

1.Evan - lesser used classic.
2/3. Caleb - lovely sound and a nice name but a bit trendy.
2/3. Rowan - as above.

  1. Parker - dislike (it's a surname or very American style name) , sorry
Katgolde · 10/11/2020 22:19

Evan James

Katgolde · 10/11/2020 22:19

Or use James as first name!

Ltay2 · 10/11/2020 22:26

Definitely won't be using James as first name, it's always been a middle name for us due to family connections/traditions.

Our favourites at the moment are Evan first, followed by Parker but staying open to other possibilities at the moment as it's only early (18 weeks)!

I like Caleb and Rowan best.

Constance1 · 10/11/2020 22:32

I only really like Rowan from your list! What don't you like about it? it's getting quite popular but it's a pretty solid timeless kind of name. Out of your other names I'd probably pick Evan.

DramaAlpaca · 10/11/2020 22:34

Evan is my favourite by far, followed by Caleb.

Not Parker, it's not a particularly nice surname and it's worse as a first name.

LovelyBranches · 10/11/2020 22:38

Evan James is the name of the writer of the Welsh national anthem so a lovely heritage to the name.

Chilldonaldchill · 10/11/2020 23:35

Evan by far.
Parker is easily my least favourite (pen? Nosy?)
The others are ok.

Firebird83 · 10/11/2020 23:45

Evan or Caleb

FrightClub · 10/11/2020 23:48

Evan and Rowan stand out for me.

Really not keen on Parker, or Caleb.

FluffyEggsontoast · 10/11/2020 23:50

Evan and Caleb would be my top choices by mile.
Rowan too trendy and similar to Roman and don't like Row. Prefer this name for a girl but even then still not keen.
Parker is nice but prefer Evan and Caleb.

BackforGood · 10/11/2020 23:51

Really don't like Parker - don't like surnames as first names.

I quite like Evan

Not so keen on Caleb and I've never liked Rowan.

AlwaysLatte · 10/11/2020 23:53

I thought Parker was a surname, I've never heard of it as a first name. So it could cause confusion. Of your list I like Evan beat.

AlwaysLatte · 10/11/2020 23:54

Best

CuppaZa · 10/11/2020 23:54

I like them all apart from Rowan

timothytoeseatenbyaghoul · 10/11/2020 23:56

Evan or caleb

greengoddess624 · 11/11/2020 00:06

Apart from many other responses, I am in love with the name Parker and I think it goes wonderfully with James as the middle!

Ltay2 · 11/11/2020 08:03

OH has always loved Evan and he's finding it hard to be open to other ideas, I do like it, it's grown on me over the last few weeks but I am concerned that I don't instantly LOVE any of the names really.

@Constance1 I've been put off Rowan mainly because of the points @FluffyEggsontoast made about popularity compared to the other names, and similarity to Roman (also very popular). Also I am aware that in other areas of the UK (Scotland mainly I think?) Rowan is used as a girls name so I wouldn't want any issues with that, for example if my son was to end up living or working in Scotland. I know thinking way ahead here but his name is his name for life!

All we know is we want a name that suits all ages and stages of life and is a strong, professional (if required) sounding name for adulthood.

Evan is such a great name.
It's not common but everyone recognises it.
I really like Euan as well.

Whatsyourflava · 11/11/2020 08:56

@greengoddess624 you're right actually. Whilst Parker wouldn't usually be to my taste, Parker James does sound really good I must admit

Caleb and Evan are both lovely choices and as has been discussed both are in that perfect position of being familiar traditional names yet they aren't too common. If you look on the dark greener website @Ltay2 you will see that both Caleb and Evan are falling in popularity so it would be a really good time to pick one of those names.
Caleb looks like it's about to leave the top 100 and Evan is even lower.

I think out of the two I'd pick Evan as it's a name your DH has always loved. Difficult decision though as I like both.

Roman, Rowan-type names climb the charts each year and I know Roman has climbed hundreds and hundreds of spots the last few years. Like others have said, I prefer Rowan for a girl and yes @Ltay2 it's in the top 100 list for girls in Scotland (but doesn't feature in the top 100 boy list). If you look at the American popularity graphs you'll see the name has also climbed the girls list massively in America too. Rowan could transition to a girl name there too (as per Hilary) but that hasn't happened yet.

LittleRa · 11/11/2020 11:16

Caleb is my favourite, and Evan second!
