Thought on the name Amber?

Sorry I’ve posted here so many times I love that I get completely honest opinions.

I’m expecting a little girl and so far on the list of names me and DP loosely agree on are Hazel and Amber. I love Hazel and he loves Amber but we don’t completely hate each others choice which is why they’re on the list.

I think Amber is pretty, from what I know it’s not common for babies at the moment but I’m just not sure.

Would love to know what others think.
@CrasterKippers I hope you don’t mind me asking but what name did you end up picking out of your list? I’m just hoping if someone has similar taste there might be a name out there we’ve not considered yet 😂
Charlotte Smile

The other two were Violet and Harriet.

Love Amber! Such a pretty name.

frustrationcentral · 10/11/2020 20:50

Love Amber and Hazel. I know two children called Amber (5 & 12) and one adult Hazel.

I also love Harriet (Hattie)

BlueCrispsareSandV · 10/11/2020 20:51

There's an Amber in my daughters class, she has the most beautiful red hair and is the sweetest girl, she's a good friend of my DD so I like it.

I also like Hazel as well. I can't pick.

Other similar names:
Jasmine
Phoebe (though thats popular)
Ruby (Again popular but I love it)

Elsie296 · 10/11/2020 20:55

I have an Amber so am definitely biased, I still love it as much as I did 7.5 years ago! x

Both beautiful names. I know one of each and they are both lovely, successful, kind people. Hazel is more prevalent in Scotland.

tinytemper66 · 10/11/2020 21:01

It is the name of my cat. But I don't mind it.

GlitterGlueGun · 10/11/2020 21:09

I think Amber is a lovely gentle name. I know two under-8s named Amber and they both are very mellow so that does colour my view. But it is a warm kind name.

FluffyEggsontoast · 10/11/2020 21:15

@CrasterKippers love all your names. Charlotte is an excellent pick though

Love both Amber and Hazel

How about Pearl or Jemima (maybe too frilly for you)

Zolaanna · 10/11/2020 21:46

Definitely amber over hazel

Firebird83 · 10/11/2020 23:40

Amber is an 80s American cheerleader name. Hazel is much nicer.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/11/2020 18:14

I prefer Amber over Hazel - I think because it has a softer sound. But both are pleasant enough names, that aren't overly popular as you said. Actually it's weird that I like Amber so much (and don't mind Hazel or the similar Heather) considering I don't usually like the similar style names (Jade, Scarlett, Violet etc).

MikeUniformMike · 11/11/2020 18:23

I really like Amber but Hazel is just OK.
I know an Amber and a Hazel, both nice.

Pick whichever sounds best with your surname.

elfran · 11/11/2020 19:39

Personally I love Hazel (would be on my list but doesn't go with DH's surname at all) but can't abide Amber. To me it has a totally different vibe - Hazel is soft and vintage, while Amber feels dated / 90s / American.

DepuisToujours · 11/11/2020 20:04

I used to know sisters named Amber and Hazel! They are in their thirties.

I love the name Hazel. I think it's nicer than Amber, but nothing wrong with either of them.
