Jude Alex, Jude Anthony, or just Jude?

We're having a little boy due in December and are so stuck on what to do with a middle name. Originally we weren't going to have one at all but I think I'll regret it.

My partners name is Alex (not short for Alexander, just Alex) so one of the contenders is Jude Alex. The other contender is my grandads name Anthony, so Jude Anthony.

I know Jude Anthony flows a bit better but I keep leaning back towards Jude Alex, just not sure if it flows very well if at all?!

Thanks in advance for any comments Smile

I don't like Jude.
Of the two middle names, Anthony is my preferred one.

chanmoj · 09/11/2020 13:25

@MikeUniformMike I mean I wasn't asking if people liked Jude or not but thanks 🤪

I like Jude Anthony best.

I love Anthony, it’s the boys name dd would have had.

@BikeRunSki thank you!

I like Jude. Why not use all of them? Jude Alex Anthony. My dn has 2 middle names as she is defo going to be an only child and they wanted to use all their names!

diddlediddle · 09/11/2020 13:34

If your baby will have your partners surname then choose to honour your grandad in the middle

TuesdaysWell · 09/11/2020 13:38

I don't have any particular opinion on the name combinations, but combining Jude with Anthony makes it sound as if you chose those names because you were Catholic (both well-known saints with popular cults, Jude the patron of hopeless cases and Anthony the finder of lost objects), whereas Jude alone, or Jude with Alex sounds entirely secular.

It may not bother you either way, obviously.

Jude Anthony sounds good to me

GaraMedouar · 09/11/2020 17:48

I like Jude Anthony. Also it makes it clear that it’s a boy , if Jude Alex it could be a girl . My DD has a unisex first name but a very feminine middle name.

sparklewarkle · 09/11/2020 18:23

Anthony. Also think Ant(h)ony makes a fab first name.

PurBal · 09/11/2020 18:23

Jude Anthony

LolaSmiles · 09/11/2020 18:25

Jude Anthony, but I like Anthony Jude even more.

DamsonJamFan · 09/11/2020 18:26

I must admit Jude Anthony did make me think of the saints. Not that it’s a bad thing.

sparklewarkle · 09/11/2020 18:28

I feel the same as @LolaSmiles but that could be because i've just finished The Folk of The Air series and the protagonist is a (female) Jude. Also I just think Anthony is a good, underused name.

ineedsun · 09/11/2020 18:31

Not what you asked but my name is Jude and my husband is called Anthony

finallychangedmyusername · 09/11/2020 20:45

Jude Anthony flows really well.
Or Jude Anthony Alex works too?

golddustwomen · 09/11/2020 20:55

Jude Anthony

Love it.

Thefaceofboe · 09/11/2020 21:29

Jude Anthony is lovely. Jude Alex sounds too harsh IMO.

chanmoj · 09/11/2020 21:57

Thanks everyone :) x

I have a Jude Matthew! I think Jude Anthony sounds better instead of two one syllable names. Jude Anthony Alex is also nice if you don’t mind two middle names.

DramaAlpaca · 10/11/2020 23:55

I think I'd choose Jude Anthony, even though it's a bit saintly Halo

I also like Jude Anthony Alex.
