Evan James or Rowan James

Surname is 2 syllables and begins with T.

James for middle name is a definite as has family connections, just so undecided on first name.

Love Rowan.

Flymetothestars · 08/11/2020 17:49

Prefer Rowan for a girl. The ones I know are girls but it gets shortened to Row. There's so many RoMans about now too. Roman, Ronnie, Rory, Reuben, Rowan are all top 100 and rising fast so name feels extremely on trend and very 2020

Evan is lovely and much more underused. The name Evan is about to fall out of the top 150 names and has been on a downward slope for the past 10 years. Total opposite to Rowan, Roman and so on

cptartapp · 08/11/2020 17:53

Evan.
Rowan is a bit effeminate for a boy.

Spied · 08/11/2020 17:55

Love Evan.
Rowan is more of a girl's name to me.

PlantPotting · 08/11/2020 18:07

Both nice. Evan hits that sweet spot of being underused yet familiar.

My baby daughter is called Rowan. Of course I like her name but tbh if I'd realised Roman was the fastest rising boy name I wouldn't have chosen Rowan. There's 2 Roman's at our small local nursery and I have to say "Rowan with a W" quite a lot. I also don't like the shortening Row and people are already using this, by accident, which upsets me a bit.

I appreciate these factors are probably not important to other people though.

FluffyEggsontoast · 08/11/2020 18:35

I prefer Evan. A more classic timeless name.

Roman is a name I may have considered a few years ago as I like the nickname Rome but the name is too overused for me last couple of years and that's taken the shine off it. The upswing on this name is huge the past few years so obviously a popular choice if you do pick it.

Flappingflamingo · 08/11/2020 18:42

Evan, really think rowan sounds more feminine but even then I still don't like it, sorry. Love James, Evan James sounds great

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 08/11/2020 18:47

Both are nice but I' think I'd choose Evan - it's a nice, slightly unusual/quirky classic that not overused. I'd personally be a bit worried about Rowan dating, as whilst lovely sounding, it is on such an upswing in popularity.

Vintagegirl77 · 08/11/2020 19:46

Evan James. I have a Ewan James which is very similar.

Firebird83 · 09/11/2020 22:05

Evan. Rowan is getting popular.

Blackcountrychik · 09/11/2020 22:09

I was gonna suggest Ewan, a bit of a mix of both names.
I like Evan but Ewan more.

Ltay2 · 10/11/2020 09:45

Sorry I don't like Ewan. It's a nice name but just not for us!

We also now have a third name so it's between

Caleb James
Evan James
Rowan James

Think I am now steering away from Rowan due to the points made about popularity and similar sounding to Roman which is also popular.

Love both Caleb and Evan. I'd find it hard to choose between those 2 names to be honest. Rowan I also find too trendy and prefer for a girl.

Popularity-wise Caleb is more commonly used but its worth focusing on the fact BOTH Caleb and Evan are on downward trajectories.
Caleb is sloping downwards and about to leave the top 100 in next year or so and Evan is about to leave the top 150 names. Therefore both look pretty safe choices as neither seem about to boom as they aren't on massive upswings. Excellent choices. @Ltay2 let us know what you pick.

Lozz22 · 10/11/2020 12:33

Rowan James
