What do you think of Doug?? DH loves it! I'm unsure...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DramaAlpaca · 08/11/2020 14:26

I quite like the full name Douglas. I'd only consider it as a middle name though, because I'm not keen on Doug or Douggie/Dougie.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 08/11/2020 14:29

I think it's quite dated.

MimiDaisy11 · 08/11/2020 15:11

I like it. I feel it's a classic though I'm Scottish so maybe that makes a difference.

Chlordiazepoxide · 08/11/2020 15:16

Love it!

SpamIAm · 08/11/2020 15:35

I don't mean to be unkind, but I genuinely think Doug might be the most plain and boring name there is...probably an opinion entirely based on the cartoon Doug. He was very plain and boring.

Aquamarine1029 · 08/11/2020 15:36

Hate it. Dated and dull.

LittleRa · 08/11/2020 15:42

I know a little boy called Doug (Douglas) he’s about 4, older sister Robyn.

Antonin · 08/11/2020 15:43

I dislike the sound — it’s a sort of grunt. Also unpleasantly like dug or dugs.
Douglas would be a great middle name.

Treacletoots · 08/11/2020 15:43

Unless you want him to be called Hey Duggee! Forever I'd find another option. Not a fan either.

ivfbabymomma1 · 08/11/2020 15:45

I really like it!

DisgruntledPelican · 08/11/2020 15:51

Douglas, yes.

Bloodypunkrockers · 08/11/2020 15:54

If it was Douglas then yes

Good Scottish name

MikeUniformMike · 08/11/2020 15:55

Like it short for Douglas.

rocketspin · 08/11/2020 15:57

What do you call a man with a spade on his head? Doug
What do you call a man without a spade on his head? Douglas

So it's a no from me as that's the first thing that came to mind. Sorry op.

YoniAndGuy · 08/11/2020 15:59

Douglas is great actually, as long as he's a wee Dougie for short

YoniAndGuy · 08/11/2020 15:59

But 100% flat NO to 'Doug' as the full name, if that's what your DH means. Appalling.

takemetomars · 08/11/2020 15:59

Husband is called Douglas. Horrible name

TheDetectiveBadge · 08/11/2020 15:59

I like Douglas, Doug for short

mamah2019 · 08/11/2020 16:46

I actually really like it, it's one of those names I really like even tho it's out of my usual taste in names. I think it works for every age too, it's a lovely name :)

florascotia2 · 08/11/2020 18:11

Doug - no. It's an abbreviation and I've lost count of the Scottish dogs I've met named Doug (because of the similarity in sound).
Douglas - not my favourite, but a perfectly good name.
Dougal - I really prefer, but that's perhaps because I've met several nice people with the name.

Firebird83 · 09/11/2020 22:06

Nice short for Douglas. Dougie is cute too.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 10/11/2020 14:41

I love it! Under-used classic. I'd probably go Douglas on the birth certificate and Doug or Dougie as the nn.

dannydyerismydad · 10/11/2020 14:42

I knew a Dhuglas. I love that spelling.

emmathedilemma · 10/11/2020 14:56

Surely Dhuglas would be Do-Glas not more Dug-las?
I quite Douglas / Doug/ Dougie, I know a few of varying ages so it doesn't strike me as dated.

midsomermurderess · 10/11/2020 15:29

I Scotland, as others have noted, it's a mainstream, unobjectionable first name.
