Hi there - my wife and i are expecting a boy in December, and are hoping for some inspiration to find nice western/Indian names for boys which are short and sweet. Please help!

What sort of names do you like? English, Hindi, Urdu - something else?

BettySundaes · 03/11/2020 14:14

Traditional you wait to find out the date/time of the baby's birth and then the pundit will give you an auspicious letter to work from.

Hari is a v old fashioned name. I don’t think you’ll find people in India being named that any more.

GroundAlmonds · 03/11/2020 14:26

Oh yes Rohan and Kiran are good calls.

Like Hari they both have English near-equivalents. (Rowan, Kieran & Harry).

Quite popular for little indian-heritage boys in the U.K. & US, though!

I quite like the name Kiaan (which is like the irish/english version of Kian/Cian) - what do people think?

OP posts:
SeanCailleach · 04/11/2020 06:18

If "aa" is a long vowel then "Kiaan" would mean a different word in Irish than "cían", which is closer to "keen".
I hadn't seen it as an Indian name although I can see that a Bollywood star called Kiran Kapoor has named her son "Kiaan".
