Our list is :
Archer (but I worry it would be shortened to Archie)
Hunter
Axel/Axl (my worry is people think of car parts but I do love the name)
Xander
Leo (DP really not that keen, says its more of a dogs name?)
Orion (DPs choice but I worry it could be too out there and get shortened to Ryan)

Middle names will be old fashioned family names if that matters at all.

DC1 has quite a unusual name, similar in sound to Noah but is a unisex name.

We are really stuck this time round.

Our first has name that is related to the stars as well so that wouldn't bother us. Any suggestions on other names going by what's on our list, anyone?
Uranus would make him unforgettable.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/11/2020 20:47

Xander is probably my fave of your choices (although I prefer it as a nn for Alexander to give more versatility).
Orion is one of my guilty pleasure names - I really love it (and would use the nn Orry). I think it's similiar sound to the surname "O'Ryan" makes it seem more useable, but it does look like Onion when written down!
I like Leo, although it is quite popular so he might not be the only one in his class.
Axel is too exotic for me (unless you have Scandi heritage) and Archer/Hunter too American/Surname for my taste, sorry.

Flymetothestars · 03/11/2020 20:49

I like Axel best

Leo & Xander are my favourites, really lovey names. I don’t really like Orion, Archer or Hunter. Axl is nice enough.

Krazynights34 · 03/11/2020 20:54

I really like Orion (but I’m very into stars and what not).
And so what if it’s unusual or whatever...
Leo is also fine (could he be a Leo as in star sign?) I wouldn’t be keen if so.
I knew someone who wanted to call their baby Leonidis- went for Rex in the end

Don't know why that posted twice sorry. Other well known star or constellation boy names would be Perseus, Atlas and possibly Altair but I don't think they are as easily used as Leo or Orion.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/11/2020 21:19

Or if you like Scandi names/star meanings then Stellan is a good option.

Sorry don't know why my computer is so messed up tonight - I won't risk posting on other threads until it's fixed - apologies!

Archer - and lemonade? Not keen
Hunter - I don’t like it because hunting is cruel
Axel - again not keen, I do think of a car part
Leo - I really like this
Orion - I actually think this one is more of a dog name
Xander - I don’t like nicknames as given names so I think Alexander would be better on the birth certificate. It makes me think of buffy the vampire slater’s friend. Xavier?

We liked Altair but it's already used in our close family 😭

My top favourites just now are Leo and Axl, but neither seem to really fit completely if that makes any sense

Leander?

danascully96 · 04/11/2020 03:55

I’m vegetarian, so definitely not a fan of Hunter. Also, it comes across aggressively masculine like you’re saying, “My son is not gay.” What if Hunter turns out to be a vegan? It’s the name I find the most offensive from your list.

Axel is popular and trendy, but again, seems intense and I’d expect him to ride a motorcycle. It’s not terrible, just not a pleasant sound to me.

My fav from your list is Leo. The rest aren’t my style unfortunately.

They’re all “American-sounding,” or Southernish, so as an American, I’ll give some suggestions:

Blake
Blane
Chase
Derek
Tate
Rhett
Bennett
Jonah

danascully96 · 04/11/2020 04:04

Actually, I’m going to cross Derek off that list because I’m not sure whether it’s “American” sounding. I’ll replace it with Austin and Cole :)

OnNaturesCourse · 04/11/2020 10:20

Cole was on the list (from me) but DP didn't like it as "the same Coal you use in a fire"

In terms of Hunter its actually from Orion who was a hunter, we found it in a name book under that explanation / meaning. But you make a point re future.

Cyrus? Or Lucius?
I think Hunter has negative connotations.
Axl is ok but will be Mis spelt always- what about Albion or Zephyr?
My favourite is Xander.
Leo seemed to be really popular 10 years ago and now I understand what your DH means.
