Favourite from our boys shortlist

Due a little boy in new year. Had a thread several days ago when we were considering Laurence/Laurie for a little boy but OH decided in the end he actually really doesn't like it 🙄 so am back to the shortlist and trying to decide how I feel about the names as we're struggling to both get excited on a particular name. My favourite now and only one that I'm really feeling is Jamie though I know DH is not overly keen and probs humouring me as he knows it's now top of my list. DH is most keen on Frank and Douglas I think. Will be brother to Josephine (Jo/Josie usually).

Jamie
Harry
Frank
Harris
Harrison (Harry as nn)
Lewis
Douglas (Doug/Dougie as nn)
Finlay (Finn)
Rory
Archie
Joshua (Josh)

Middle names options of
Douglas
Patrick
Angus
Robert
William

Which would you choose?

Rory Douglas

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/10/2020 14:44

I wouldn’t have Josie and Josh.

Favourite is Jamie, followed by Rory Archie and Finn.

Dislike Frank and and Lewis.

NameChange30 · 31/10/2020 14:44

My favourite is Rory.
I also like Joshua/Josh (although it's a bit close to Josie), Finlay and Harry.

I dislike Douglas and Archie.

Spied · 31/10/2020 14:46

Harrison gets a bad time on here but I really like it.
Harrison Robert

BuffaloCauliflower · 31/10/2020 14:47

My least favourite on your list is Jamie, just not a fan.
Love Douglas, minded a toddler Dougie a few years ago and it really grew on me. I think it’s a name that grows well with them. Frank or Rory would be second. I think all 3 go well with Josephine.

hughthehedgehog · 31/10/2020 14:47

Thank you for your replies! Had forgot to also ask which names people really dislike as well from the list as well as those you'd choose so thank you for those as well

Harris Patrick is pretty cool Smile. I love Frank but only as a nn for Francis, Francis and Josephine go really well together imo. Josh and Jamie are too similar to Josie I think esp Jamie. All the other options work well but I think Harris and Frank are my faves or Angus as a first name?

missmouse101 · 31/10/2020 14:49

Jamie or Joshua. Rory is really awful. The 'roar' sound is ugly and it may get pronounced Waw wee by some.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 31/10/2020 14:51

I like Archie best, but not keen on Josie & Archie

Rory Douglas gets my vote!

This made me laugh though!

Harris
Harrison (Harry as nn)

You'd consider Harris as a name, but NN Harrison Harry 🤣

(Definitely not Jamie with Josie)

hughthehedgehog · 31/10/2020 14:52

@Quizeerascal I know do like a longer formal name and nn options but can't quite bring myself with Francis as know too many female Frances' and though I know it is a male name equally as well to me it is just too effeminate

Franklin?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 31/10/2020 14:53

Finlay Patrick

hughthehedgehog · 31/10/2020 14:54

Franklin's an option hadn't thought of that 🤔

I have a Laurence (Laurie) Rory, Patrick and William were also on my list so I'd go with one of those. Other names I seriously considered/DS1's names are Benedict, Tristan, Gregory, James, Edward or Nicholas.

NinaNannoo · 31/10/2020 14:56

Rory Robert has a lovely ring to it!
Finn Patrick

emilybrontescorsett · 31/10/2020 14:57

Sorry but I really dislike Frank and Douglas, both awful.
I don't like Jamie either, much prefer James.
The only one I like from your list is Harry.

clpsmum · 31/10/2020 14:57

Harris

hughthehedgehog · 31/10/2020 15:00

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants 😂 I know tbh is probs a good chance I'd end up giving them nn Harry anyway. Frank I'd probs end up lengthening to Frankie too- just can't help myself with a nn! 🙈

Douglas and Harrison are horrible. The rest are ok. My favourites are Jamie and Robert- they do sound like boys I went to school with in the 80's.

daisydalrymple · 31/10/2020 15:08

Of your list, Harrison (Harri) sounds most similar to Laurence (Laurie) if that was your fave.

Itmaybeus · 31/10/2020 15:19

Archie William would be my choice.

AdaColeman · 31/10/2020 15:25

Lewis Rory and Douglas are my favourites.

Not at all keen on Harry/Harrison/Harris or Archie.

DelphiniumBlue · 31/10/2020 15:54

I wouldn't have 2 siblings with same initial,( post isuues!) so that rules out Jamie and Joshua.
Harris and Harrison are surnames., not first names, so lack that classic feel you seem to be liking generally. Lewis spelt that way is also not so classic, Louis would be better.
Archie will date very quickly . If you want Finn, then choose it over Finlay, it is it's own name.

I really like Rory, also Douglas and Angus are cool. Robert would be a good choice also - it's not used a lot these days ( no Roberts in my London primary) but is still quite classic. William is nice, we have approx 1 in each year group, but you have to be firm on the NN for that if you don't want Willy!

Ladderofyears · 31/10/2020 16:05

Rory Douglas
Finlay Douglas

(Although I'd actually have an Angus Finlay if I could combine your lists and call him Gus).

MockneyReject · 31/10/2020 17:09

From your list(s), I like
Angus/Gus
Douglas/Dougie/Doug
Rory

I dislike Harry/Harrison, Archie, Lewis, Jamie and Josh + only because they've all been overused since I had my sons.

I like the suggestion of Franklin/Frank, although I also like Francis.
In a similar vein to those in your shortlist, would you consider Gregory/Gregor/Greg? I would then have Gregory Patrick (although I would actually have David/Davey, but that's not really similar to your list names).
