Thinking of naming our baby Alma, love the way it sounds, soft and calm. Also love it's meaning in other languages. Thoughts please...

I like the name Alma, but it means apple in Hungarian, so wouldn’t have ever used it.

Userzzz · 28/10/2020 17:06

Love it!

Never0000 · 28/10/2020 17:49

I love it 😍 To me it too sounds exactly like you describe it.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 28/10/2020 18:25

I like it. I had a great aunt Alma who was a nice lady!

jasminetealeaves · 28/10/2020 21:13

Thanks, I'm thinking it's not very common?

Makes me think of Alma Pudden from the St Clare's books...

Firebird83 · 28/10/2020 22:19

Love it!

Paraplu · 28/10/2020 23:15

Love it! I think it’s chic, serene and with a beautiful meaning. I’m biased though Smile

I like it.

DramaAlpaca · 28/10/2020 23:21

I'm sorry but I don't like it at all. It sounds almost too calm and gentle to me, a bit of a wishy washy name without much to it. Sorry again.

nokia3210567 · 28/10/2020 23:46

Awh I love it, never heard or met one!

Starryskiesinthesky · 28/10/2020 23:48

Was Alma Cogan not the person in the Jeffrey Archer case?! Not good associations for me!!!

ifiwasascent · 29/10/2020 07:08

What do you mean @Starryskiesinthesky? Just googled and nothing comes up.
I don't feel it's too wishy washy, I think there's a gentle strength to it?

strawbmilk · 29/10/2020 10:26

On my list & DH said no 😞

MondeoFan · 29/10/2020 10:32

Yes it's nice and calming as you say.
There's a Morrissey/Smiths song called "Alma Matters"

thetangleteaser · 29/10/2020 10:39

I absolutely love it, it’s on my list if I ever had another girl!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/10/2020 10:43

I don't love it (or hate it) but it is definitely very current around the nicer areas of London. My cousin and his wife called their DD Alma a couple of years ago, and we were all a bit "really? Are you sure?" but since then I've run into four more, all aged under 5, so it must be on the up.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/10/2020 10:44

Thinking about it, I find it slightly difficult to pronounce.

Enko · 29/10/2020 10:48

Top 5 name in Denmark at the moment my cousins granddaughter has just been named this

Enko · 29/10/2020 10:48

ItsNotPinkItsSalmon · 29/10/2020 10:59
