Stuck between these two name combos

Hello everyone,

My sons first name is James. I am stuck between two middle names for him and we will only choose one of them (they don't go together anyway). Which name combo would you choose/like best and why?

James William B@ldwin

James Leo B@ldwin

Thanks so much for your help!

James is such a great name.

I'd choose James Leo simply because it's a little more unexpected and less 'safe' than James William.

James William is nice too, I do like classic names, but James Leo is just that bit more interesting.

I prefer James William because I prefer the name William to Leo . James is a great name .

I think I just prefer William, but only by a tiny bit. Both lovely names!

James William.
sounds more balanced somehow.

IckleBear · 26/10/2020 04:32

James William

Kote · 26/10/2020 04:56

William. Leo feels a bit nickname-y to me.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/10/2020 05:27

I prefer James William with your surname - it flows better.

Leo. Much better name. Prefer it to the ultra dull William.

FelicityPike · 26/10/2020 07:44

Leo. William is dull.

I prefer Leo to William, but Leo seems odd as a middle name.

I love the name James but Leo J. B@1dwin sounds better.

Zimbomama · 26/10/2020 08:44

william

Leo has more personality. William (especially with James) is just two uber-classic names - together, it's just a tiny bit boring.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 26/10/2020 15:24

I prefer Leo as a name but think William flows better with James. James is already a very short name so I’m not sure a short middle name works well.

TheFoz · 26/10/2020 15:36

Leo has a bit of character, William is overdone.

foxtiger · 26/10/2020 15:53

William!

LottieDot · 26/10/2020 22:52

Leo!

TildaTurnip · 26/10/2020 22:54

William. I don’t know why but I agree with a PP that Leo doesn’t sound right as a middle name. Plus it is a bit of a trendy name where I am and I think will date.

James William is lovely.

Tillygetsit · 26/10/2020 23:09

Leo. There will be fewer James Leos and it sounds fresher.

wishing3 · 26/10/2020 23:11

I prefer the flow of William, but both go well.

Orphlids · 26/10/2020 23:16

James William. That’s a lovely name. I don’t think it’s boring at all, I think it’s rather dashing. Leo doesn’t carry the same weight to my ears.

MercyBodle · 27/10/2020 00:48

Both good names but I would choose Leo, as the more interesting and unexpected middle. Both work with James and the surname though.
