Jonathan all the way!

LazyLucille · 26/10/2020 23:33

Daniel. Classic name I am bias as I have one.

Ellmau · 27/10/2020 00:07

Daniel.

Jonathan is equally classic in theory but right now feels a bit dated to me.

MercyBodle · 27/10/2020 00:46

Jonathan.
I find it more timeless than Daniel which was hugely popular for a couple of decades, and feels a bit dated and over-used now. Still okay though.

VenusClapTrap · 27/10/2020 09:11

Jonathan. Lovely name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/10/2020 09:35

Love both and I only know one small person with each name (5 and 4) though Jonathan is always known as Jonny

I think I'd go with Jonathan as statistically it is more unusual and I like both Johnny and John, but not the biggest fan of Dan and Danny though love Daniel

foxtiger · 27/10/2020 09:39

I like both but slightly prefer Daniel, I think.

GrumpySausage · 27/10/2020 09:42

Jonathan. My DH is one and I always think its a great name, options for nicknames if you want and not that common.

burglarbettybaby · 27/10/2020 09:52

Much prefer Jonathan. But Daniel is a very nice name and still very popular. I know a good few children called Danny/Daniel

ellenpartridge · 27/10/2020 09:55

Daniel.

I still come across plenty of young Daniels (I have a preschooler, so in that age bracket!) I don't think it's had its day or become dated at all. I'm sure it has dropped a bit compared to the 70s and 80s but seems to be consistently quite popular I think. Jonathan on the other hand does seem quite dated to me. Haven't come across any younger than about 30!

Ladderofyears · 27/10/2020 10:08

Jonathan.

LostAcre · 27/10/2020 10:09

Jonathan

BinkyBoinky · 27/10/2020 10:35

Daniel is cute. Jonathan sounds like a 50 year old man!

Firebird83 · 27/10/2020 19:48

Jonathan

Dreamcatcher007 · 28/10/2020 08:47

Daniel

@BinkyBoinky

Daniel is cute. Jonathan sounds like a 50 year old man!
I'm that age and honestly about 40% of the husbands of friends/friends I know in my age bracket are Dan!!! I also know two Daniels under 10, a local bar person in his 20s who is Dan, and innumerable colleagues/men in my wider professional circle of all ages who are Dan.

I have only known a couple of Jon/Jonty/ Jonathans in my life.

Neither name really fits into one age bracket. Jonathan is rare now... but it's always been much rarer. But no matter what decade you pick, Dans really are ten a penny. To me, it's nice, but one of those names which are so common as to have basically lost all personality.

DollyParton2 · 28/10/2020 12:08

Jonathan is the dullest, plainest boys/mans name for me. So straight. So boring. So dated.

SMurphy91 · 28/10/2020 15:49

My DH is Daniel and his older brother Jonathan (they go by Dan/Danny and Jonny but their mum still always calls them by their full names!)

Both nice names. They have a younger brother David too in case you want more options Grin

Buttercup54321 · 30/10/2020 23:57

Daniel.

Dreamcatcher007 · 31/10/2020 15:02

Argh very hard decision! I’m leaning towards Jonathan myself, but the complication is our older boy is Evan, which is a Welsh version of John. And even though John and Jonathan are completely unrelated names, I wonder if some people will think we essentially gave both brothers the same name...

I prefer Daniel. Great nicknames too. I do however love Jon.
