African/South African inspiration

Looking for some inspiration!

DH is South African and we would like to name baby with a nod to his heritage.

Not sure on the sex yet.

What is his background OP? We have 11 official languages down there and obviously quite a racial divide, so it’s difficult to make suggestions without more detail.

White South African, speaks Afrikaans fluently.

So are you looking for Afrikaans / Dutch names? I’ve always liked Willem.

Thandie or Zandile

I've taught a lot of SA children (lots of SA live in Middle East) & found that both English and Afrikaan speakers tend to give their children standard Western names but maybe a little more on the adventurous side! Found the same with adults my own age as well (of all SA race & language backgrounds). I don't want to name any of the children I've taught for obvious reasons, but their names would fit in in the UK but generally wouldn't be top 50. Either modern or traditional. Just a pattern I noticed anyway. Never came across anyone with an overtly 'Dutch' style name, but maybe that's because they knew their child would be brought up in an English speaking environment. Probably not much help to you really!

My friend has a Marizaan, which I think is very pretty.
