We are having a girl and have a list of names we need to whittle down.
I do quite like "unisex" names,; we also have an Irish connection so some of the names are a nod to that.
Please give me your thoughts on the below list!

Quinn
Cora
Coralie
Robyn
Aeryn
Farah
Felicity
Rowan
Aine (awn-ya)
Fallon
Darcey

Love Cora, Felicity and Darcy (but would spell it this way)Smile

Ladderofyears · 24/10/2020 10:09

Quinn - really not keen.
Cora - I quite like this. It's pretty and fresh.
Coralie - not so keen on this. A bit frilly for my tastes. I prefer Amelie or Elodie which sounds similar but not so frilly
Robyn - I really like this
Aeryn - I've not come across this but I think it looks lovely and sounds lovely (I assume it's pronounced AIR - in?)
Farah - not keen at all. Fawcett. Big hair. Very 80s.
Felicity - lovely
Rowan - really nice
Aine (awn-ya) - it's ok
Fallon - really not keen. Very 80s again
Darcey - really dislike this name

I love Airyn, Robyn, Rowan and Felicity and really like Cora from your list.

I only really like Felicity. Rowan, Robyn and Cora are OK, dislike the rest (Fallon is particularly awful).

IckleBear · 24/10/2020 11:03

I love Rowan! Looks nice and I think it has a nice nickname.

MercyBodle · 24/10/2020 12:53

Love:
Robyn - just love the sounds, feel a Robyn could be anything she wants
Aeryn - unusual and evocative, very appealing
Felicity - upbeat and, as with all my loves, not over-used
Rowan - same as for Robyn

Like:
Quinn - cute and fun
Farah - like Fallon, a bit American soapy, but lovely sounds and could overcome this
Aine - interesting
Fallon - good sounds but feels a little dated
Darcey - would like more if wasn't very trendy and feels over-used

Dislike:
Cora - harsh, don't get the appeal

Strongly dislike
Coralie - how did such a frumpy, prissy name end up on this sleek, smart list?

IamMaz · 24/10/2020 13:33

Cora
Felicity
Rowan
Darcey

These are my favourites.
I'm fussy and it was nice to be able to choose so many!!!

Flymetothestars · 24/10/2020 13:41

Love Quinn, Cora, Coralie, Farah, Felicity and Darcey.

I really like the simplicity of Cora so that would probably be my top choice. Farah has a nice gentle sound to it.

Aine (awn-ya) and Fallon are not names I have come across much, they seem nice.

Rowan isn't a name I would pick these days as it feels even more popular than it actually is because of there being so many baby RoMans now. Roman has risen hundreds of places in the charts in the last few years. I also know little RoHans. Makes the name feel very trendy and likely to date.

jemimafuddleduck · 24/10/2020 17:07

Thanks all!

At the moment I think my favourite is Aeryn - like I said, we have Irish connections and it's actually an Irish name, meaning "from Ireland"!

It would be pronounced Air In.

I also love Rowan but it does seem a little common?

I like Aeryn, Cora, Darcy and Rowan.

Bubbletrouble43 · 24/10/2020 17:18

Wow. One if my DDs is a name from your list and almost all the others were on my shortlist but rejected by dp! We have the same taste...

Bubbletrouble43 · 24/10/2020 17:20

Fwiw quinn and cora are the two I still think about, although as everyone else in the world looked at me like I was crazy when I suggested Quinn I'm going to say Cora is the best although I love them both. I have a Robin, and I never considered Farah but I kind of love it!

jemimafuddleduck · 24/10/2020 17:22

@Bubbletrouble43 how funny! Similar taste indeed 😊

Aeryn sounds lovely and I like the meaning @jemimafuddleduck

In terms of numbers there was only 10 babies called Aeryn's in 2019 so it's very unusual and will almost certainly be only one in class and school. Over 800 babies called Rowan and it's on an upswing so there'll be more in 2020. Depends how popular is "too popular" for you. It's obviously getting increasingly used and there's also the over 1,000 Roman's with an M being born every year now (and there'll be more in 2020). But it's not close to the top 10 or anything (well, not yet, anyway). Just depends what you're looking for

IKEA888 · 24/10/2020 17:33

Rowan

emilybrontescorsett · 24/10/2020 18:09

I like Felicity best.

SionnachRua · 24/10/2020 18:16

Quinn - nope, nope, nope. A name for Americans whose husband's Granny's neighbours dog was Irish and they're totes Irish too.

Cora - ok

Coralie - better than Cora.

Robyn - nope.

Aeryn - is this meant to be Erin? Erin is bad enough without misspelling making it sound more American. There is no y in the Irish alphabet so the Irish connection is tenuous at best.

Farah - actually really like this

Felicity - pretty

Rowan - also pretty

Aine (awn-ya) - nope. Can only picture it on a middle aged woman...not that there's anything wrong with middle aged women but it's dated.

Fallon - nope

Darcey - ok

weasle · 24/10/2020 22:58

Cora is really lovely.

Quin - defo not.

Davespecifico · 26/10/2020 11:31

Mikeuniformmike- I think exactly the same as you for every name.

Nutmegpapaya · 26/10/2020 11:34

Quinn - not keen as a first name but it makes a strong surname!
Cora - ok
Coralie - not keen
Robyn - love
Aeryn - I like it written down but not as keen on the sound of it
Farah - not keen
Felicity - ok
Rowan - lovely
Aine (awn-ya) - nice but I think I prefer the sound of anya
Fallon - very strong name but maybe a bit out there for the UK, seems quite american (I know it's the main characters name in an american programme I watch)
Darcey - not keen
