WDYT of Meredith?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love it! This was on our girls name list but we ended up having 2 boys.

Sexnotgender · 18/10/2020 09:18

Love it

Autumnleaves200 · 18/10/2020 09:19

I like Meredith, don’t like mere as a non though

Ewanthescreamsheep · 18/10/2020 09:37

Love it. Was my top girls choice for dc2 but OH wasn't totally convinced. Luckily we had a boy, so didn't have to battle it out :)

daisypond · 18/10/2020 09:53

Not for a girl. It’s a Welsh boys’ name, and tends to be pronounced wrongly. For a girl it’s downmarket and has no class.

MikeUniformMike · 18/10/2020 13:25

Dislike it. It is OK as a surname but it sounds masculine and harsh as a girl's name.

TheVanguardSix · 18/10/2020 13:27

Oh I love Meredith! It's a name you just don't hear. It's timeless and beautiful.

ShipOfTheseus · 18/10/2020 13:31

How can Meredith be considered timeless? It’s a very modern American name, surely, if used for a girl.

MikeUniformMike · 18/10/2020 13:33

Agree, ShipOfTheseus.

Someone once posted that Darcy (or Darcie/Darcey) was timeless - er, ... as a surname.

Enko · 18/10/2020 13:55

Beautiful

Enko · 18/10/2020 13:57

I always understood it to be Welsh

JaJaDingDong · 18/10/2020 13:59

Meredith spelled like that isn't Welsh.

Sojo88 · 18/10/2020 14:02

Love it - and agree with pp that Merry would be a lovely nickname.

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/10/2020 14:02

I thinks it's a beautiful name.

earthtopluto · 18/10/2020 14:04

Love it

Wotsitone · 18/10/2020 14:05

I really love this name. It’s pretty but not overly frilly.

JanewaysBun · 18/10/2020 14:07

Love it, would use

Diverseduvet · 18/10/2020 14:09

I wouldn't use Merry as a nn, in case she's not! A heavy burden if she's a miserable kid

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 18/10/2020 19:01

I like it, but it does make me think of an unpleasant association with Meredith Kertcher/Amanda Knox

WildCherryBlossom · 18/10/2020 21:00

I like it. I have never met a little Meredith but I would like to. I think it would work for any age too.

Fedoos · 19/10/2020 18:21

We have a Meredith so obviously a big yes from me!

notalwaysalondoner · 19/10/2020 19:11

I really like it pronounced like in Greys. Think it's lovely and also quite unusual.

Carouselfish · 19/10/2020 22:33

Mumsnet can be odd sometimes. Would never have said Meredith was down-market or modern. it's akin to names like Patricia and Barbara to me although far prettier. Due a revival I'd say op.

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/10/2020 09:55

Love it, would of really considered using it except it clashes with my surname :(

Champy87 · 20/10/2020 12:17

I love it. I am a Greys fan and would still use despite the connection. Just need to convince the hubby.
