Nicholas or Joseph?

To go with brother Alexander and sisters Lydia and Iris. I lean towards Nicholas as it’s a bit more uncommon now, and Nick seems a bit cooler than Joe. But am still interested to gather other opinions. The middle name will be Mark, cheers

I like them both.
I slightly prefer Joseph to Nicholas but I prefer Nico to Joe or Nick.
Both are lovely though and fit well with your family.

I have a Joseph so that gets my vote.

MercyBodle · 18/10/2020 02:58

I much prefer Nicholas.

I also like that it's not everywhere like Joseph.

Aranan · 18/10/2020 03:03

Prefer Nick to Joe, but prefer Joseph to Nicholas (not helpful!)

Joseph!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/10/2020 03:08

Joseph

Jospeh is beautiful. I love the nicknames Joey and Joe.
You have chosen great names for your kids!

Porridgeoat · 18/10/2020 03:17

Joseph is lovely

Nicholas. Much less common these days and it it does much better with the other names. I also like Nick as a shorter version.

The only downside is that I remember a Nicholas at school being teased for being 'knicker- less'.

autumnkate · 18/10/2020 21:16

I much prefer Joseph

Nicholas for me (providing you can see past the "knicker-less" thing.) I love your other names btw - great sibset!.

I like Joseph but Nicholas gives him far more nickname options when he's older (similar to Alexander) such as trendy Nico and Cole.

Firebird83 · 18/10/2020 23:32

Nicholas

Have you really known a Nicholas who goes by Nico or Cole?

Generally all the ones I have known have been called Nicky as a child, and then usually they have chosen to be Nick from teenage years.

MaddeningtheUnhelpful · 18/10/2020 23:32

My DS is Joseph Nicholas. Great names Grin

RBA14 · 18/10/2020 23:34

Definately Joseph/Joe

Rockmehardplace · 19/10/2020 00:34

I adore Joseph but think Nicholas goes better with your other names.

While I admit Nick/Nicky is definitely the usual shortening in the UK, there are a few Nico's now as it's a fairly common nickname variation in other European countries (pronounced "nee - coh" rather than "nick -oh" ). Cole I have heard used as a nickname for Nicholas in the US as well as a given name.

I suspect that it's similar to Alex being the usual shortening for Alexander in the UK, but we are seeing more and more Xander's and Sasha's as parents or the kids themselves want something less commonplace, or that they've heard used in other countries.

IHateWasps · 19/10/2020 13:56

Joseph is a much more attractive name. Nick is awful.

LittleTiger007 · 20/10/2020 17:11

Joseph gets my vote

RosieLemonade · 21/10/2020 19:07

I love both.
are you a Jonas brothers fan by the way?
I love Nick but if we named our boy that we we have the names of a couple from a TV show including surname!
