Florence or Isla?

My husband prefers Florence, I prefer Isla. Popularity isn't an issue as we like the names. We have a son called Jack.

ignore the teacher what a vile comment, isla is a common name now and common sense about how to pronounce or quickly correct is the norm, what a stupid and ignorant comment. fully agree I wish she wouldn't teach my children either.

MrsB25 · 11/10/2020 07:48

I’m a teacher too in a primary school with around 700 pupils, only 3 named Isla! 😊

greybeans · 11/10/2020 09:49

Florence is sooo pretty but it reminds me of older woman

MercyBodle · 11/10/2020 11:02

I much prefer Florence.

captainprincess · 11/10/2020 11:36

I really like Isla, but it has become so popular I would probably go with Florence.

Lulu1919 · 11/10/2020 11:49

I know three Florence's in one very small year group at my school

Parker231 · 11/10/2020 11:52

Both lovely names. They may be popular but that’s isn’t a reason not to choose a name you like.

ArsenicNLace · 11/10/2020 12:02

Isla definitely.

Don't like Florence at all. Much too prissy & it gets shortened to 'Flo' which makes me think of periods.

Notverybright · 11/10/2020 12:05

Ilsa I had no idea it was popular. Autocorrect better catch up quick.

Notverybright · 11/10/2020 12:05

Isla- ha haBlush

AnnieHoo · 11/10/2020 12:07

Both gorgeous names.

Glitterheart · 11/10/2020 16:37

We have an Isla, I think it’s a gorgeous name 🙂 and she is the only Isla in her school. I love Florence too though!

MikeUniformMike · 11/10/2020 19:21

Not keen on either but if I had to choose, Florence.
Isla has been overused and there are so many similar names like Lila around.

escourtie · 11/10/2020 19:32

Florence is so Beautiful x

Swishswish26 · 11/10/2020 19:37

I would say Florence. There are so many Isla’s in DD’s school. I know you say it wouldn’t put you off but once they start school, you might not be keen on being one of 4 Isla’s in a class like we currently have.

overthemountainsandfaraway · 11/10/2020 19:42

In a pure sense, with no thought to popularity at all, Isla is the more beautiful name, so I would go with that

mintich · 11/10/2020 19:57

I prefer Isla but only just

abitfunny · 11/10/2020 20:28

Florence 100% it’s lovely

aquamarine1 · 11/10/2020 20:38

Isla! Although I love both I was convinced not to use Isla by these very boards a few years ago re popularity. Turns out she'd have been the only Isla in her school and I only came across two at playgroups and baby groups over the years and I'm in scotland!

pantherrose · 11/10/2020 20:50

I thought Florence was usually shortened to Flossie or Floss. Either way OP, both are lovely names and I can’t decide which I prefer!

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2020 21:27

I love both, but I think I'd choose Isla as a sibling to Jack.

AlwaysLatte · 11/10/2020 21:36

Jack and Florence is lovely. Really nice names. I always think that someone called Isla might marry a man with the surname White! (Unlikely, I know but it's a common surname!)

DottyFlossie · 11/10/2020 21:47

Florence is a lovely name.
