For a Celtic baby girl. (Not mine). What's the best spelling? Would Welsh spelling Befen be better?

@Heygirlheyboy

You can also pronounce it Bay-bin, without fada ón Last i. I prefer that. Béibhinn.
That’s by far the most usual spelling, I’d have said.

Béibhínn 100%

It was the alternative name for DD, and now you’ve reminded me to add it to my list for potential dc3!

I know a few. It’s a lovely, unique name. I’ve only heard it pronounced Bevin.

@Heygirlheyboy

Sorry typo, Bay-vin
That’s what I meant, not Bay-bin!

I’ve never come across Béibhínn (Bay-VEEN) at all. Less keen, given that it inevitably recalls one of my bugbears, Aoibheann (mis)pronounced ‘Ay-VEEN’.

irish version ftw

Heygirlheyboy · 11/10/2020 07:50

Blavatskyite I agree completely! Anyway Bay-veen to my ear doesn't sound nice, two hard vowels like that together.
