Kitson, Baxter, Abel or Denny?

I love Abel and Denny, DH loves Kitson and Baxter. Kitson is growing on me. I also liked the name Henry but SIL just had a boy and named him Henry so now I'm stuck. What are your opinions on Kitson, Baxter, Abel or Denny?

Remember you're naming a person who will have to live with the name through his whole life.

Pet names?

SpeedofaSloth · 04/10/2020 19:25

I am not keen on any of them, sorry OP.

SayWhatTheWhatNow · 04/10/2020 19:28

Kitson - not sure......
Baxter - more a dogs name
Abel - hmmmm
Denny - ok, the best out of all 4

TinaTraybake · 04/10/2020 19:28

I know I'm naming a human, it's my 7th child. I'm not keen on Baxter but I'm trying to think of names similar for me and DH to agree on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Kitson sounds made up. Can’t you use Christopher nickname Kit if that’s what you like?

katy1213 · 04/10/2020 19:35

Stick with Henry.

StellaGib · 04/10/2020 19:53

Why not Daniel/Danny instead of Denny?
Or Kit instead of Kitson?
Feels like you have chosen normal names and then tried to make them a bit odd.

Names like Henry - George, James, Arthur, Samuel

If you like surname-y names how about Harrison, Austin, Cameron?

IrishMumInLondon2020 · 04/10/2020 19:55

Absolutely woeful.

Votesforpedro · 04/10/2020 19:59

Christopher is lovely nn Kit

Bourbonbiscuits20 · 04/10/2020 20:01

Abel

ANoTail · 04/10/2020 20:02

Abel is the only one I've ever heard used on a person.
Other possible human names:
Daniel
David
Thomas
Jude
Adam

BrokenLink · 04/10/2020 20:03

I like Kitson and Abel. Not keen on Baxter.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2020 20:05

Abel is the only one I've ever heard used on a person.

The others are surnames.

Prettybluepigeons · 04/10/2020 20:06

All awful.

How about James?

EugenesAxe · 04/10/2020 20:06

They’re mostly bad.

Denny is the surname of a soldier in Pride and Prejudice that Lydia and Kitty flirt with. Baxter makes me think of Chapman Baxter, the American perpetually on Death Row, in The Day Today.

Abel is at least Biblical so some basis in tradition? Not the happiest of characters though.

finallychangedmyusername · 04/10/2020 20:09

Trying to think of similar names.

Kitson > Christopher, Christian, Kieran, Kevin

Baxter > Rex, Max, Brandon

Abel > Adam, Abram, Aiden, Andrew, Alvin, Albert

Denny > Daniel, Dean, Donavan

Henry > Harry, Harrison, Thomas, Edward, Oscar, Frederick, Hamish

Toilenstripes · 04/10/2020 20:10

Seven children.

LadyIronDragon · 04/10/2020 20:11

Dexter? That feels like a mix of yours and your husband's choices.

Maxwell or Maxim maybe?

Denny is the name of a town near Falkirk. It's not a town I'd particularly like to share a name with (apologies to any locals...)

I generally like surnamey names a lot, being Scottish they very are normal and traditional here, but I'm afraid I'm not keen on your selection.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2020 20:12

If I came across a Denny I'd assume it was an NN for Dennis.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 04/10/2020 20:16

I know of 2 dennys.

One in his 40s, surname is dennison. No idea what his real first name is.

One in his teens. Short for Denver.
Which I quite like.

Itwasaquarterpast11 · 04/10/2020 20:17

Henry could not be more different than the other 4 choices.
Abel was murdered by his brother, Baxter reminds me of Bert Baxter, the old man in Adrian Mole books, Kitson looks like a model airplane name. My cousin is known as Denny. It's short for Denise.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 04/10/2020 20:17

I also know a Baxter. He would be in his 20s now I think.

Sundaypolodog · 04/10/2020 20:19

Poor kids - why do you need these stupid faffy names? What are you trying to say? My child is unique? My child is odd is what people will think

TerribleCustomerCervix · 04/10/2020 20:22

We have an old relation called Baxter who is honestly one of the most unpleasant people I’ve ever met. So I instantly either think of him or the dog from Anchorman.

Denny = one of the dastardly Wickham’s friends in Pride and Prejudice. Also, a fantastic Northern Irish sausage maker.

Kitson is a store in LA which got really popular in the early 2000s- makes me think of Von Dutch caps.

Abel is ok.

Do you truly love any of them, OP? It just sounds like you’re a bit stuck.
