Thoughts on Edwin?

I really like Edward and Eddie but however am put off by how popular Edward is right now. I came up with Edwin the other day as an alternative, think it’s quite handsome and charming and particularly like how it was the birth name of Buzz Aldrin until he changed it. So what would people think of a baby called Edwin, with Eddie as the nickname? Middle name will be Francis. Thank you

Wonderful name. Was high on my list of baby names, but we wanted to avoid the initial "E" for various reasons.

ImaSababa · 04/10/2020 12:24

Edwin is the best out of the Ed names (Edward, Edmund, Edgar)

CherryBlossomTree7 · 04/10/2020 12:29

Awful. It definitely is wet.

Edward nn Eddie is miles nicer.

Edwin Francis is terrible (sorry). I would hate to be called this.

Ellmau · 04/10/2020 15:49

Very nice.

FizzyGreenWater · 04/10/2020 15:52

Sorry, wet!

FizzyGreenWater · 04/10/2020 15:52

Oh God and I missed the middle name Francis! Oh no no no no. Francis is truly horrible so please don't pair it with Edwin!

Love it. It was on my list if we had a boy. Instead, we had daughters. But a great name - Classic and not too overused.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 04/10/2020 16:01

Great name, love it!

ComicePear · 04/10/2020 16:01

I prefer Edward and I'm surprised you say it's popular - I only know one.

MojoJojo71 · 04/10/2020 16:18

I like it but of all the names that could be shortened to Ed/Eddie my favourite is Edison, I loved it for DD if she’d been a boy

RuthW · 04/10/2020 16:19

My favourite boy's name ever.

Pinnacular · 04/10/2020 16:23

Not at all keen. It's on par with Tarquin for me. I picture a feeble child living in a run down country estate, where pale blue silk knickerbockers (bit specific, but DH suggested it when I was pregnant so I've given it some thought Grin).

I like it but prefer Edmund which also goes with Francis.

badacorn · 04/10/2020 21:05

It’s great.

Beamur · 04/10/2020 21:08

A friend of mine called their boy this. After Edwin Collins too!
Goes by 'Ted' rather than Eddie/Ed.
Not remotely wet. Lovely kid.

WilmaJean · 04/10/2020 21:14

Absolutely love the combo... I suggested exactly the same for my DS at they are the names of both my grandfathers!

AiryFairyMum · 04/10/2020 21:21

Love it.
