Me again! Emilia nn Emmie or Daisy? Put off Daisy with the twee comments but still can't discard it 🤷🏼‍♀️🥰

Daisy is a lovely name. It's been around a long time. I suspect there are a fair few great grandmas who would have something to say about the idea that it's a toddler name!

confusedpombear · 03/10/2020 11:09

Emilia by a long way.

I like both names but Emilia is very common atm, if that matters to you.

People always bang on about Daisy/other flower names being twee/toddlerish/not strong enough but they are, frankly, overthinking it. A person's strength comes from their personality, not their name. Plus, if you want to get into it, the origin of the word comes from the sun, so it is hardly a weak association. Perhaps by coincidence a majority of the Daisy's I have met have been quite edgy and spirited, which if anything seems more fitting to me than the twee and timid image people have in mind, as they are resilient wild flowers.

I also have a suspicion that a lot of the names people describe as too twee to give a child these days will be very much the norm in 20 years when they are supposedly being rejected from job interviews for having such a babyish name, because those types of names are very much the fashion atm. Nobody will raise an eyebrow at an Evie or Alfie or whatever it is people on MN like to complain about.

Emilia, pronounced EmMILLia.

Daisy is dreadful.

mirandatempest · 03/10/2020 11:45

Emilia - very pretty but elegant enough for adulthood. Daisy is a bit cutesy for me. Also Daisy in great gatsby...

CharlieBoo · 03/10/2020 18:24

@sofa totally agree... my Daisy is 11 now, and her name has grown with her and will continue to do so... whether she’s a solicitor, a police officer, a hairdresser or a lollipop lady!

emmathedilemma · 03/10/2020 19:03

Daisy

AegonT · 03/10/2020 20:32

Emilia as it is more of a full proper name.

buntingandstarcharts · 03/10/2020 21:07

Thank you everyone. Daisy remains my fave and this convo has shown me that many agree with my sentiment that it is a traditional name with some fire in it as well as a bit of girliness. Thank you everyone x

Definitely Emilia - every girl's name these days seems to end in "ie" or "y".

missmouse101 · 03/10/2020 21:36

Great choice OP!

Joolsin · 03/10/2020 23:00

Hooray, OP, you've made the best choice!! #notbiased Grin

caringcarer · 03/10/2020 23:43

Emilia far nicer than Daisy. I know a Daisy and not a nice child.

IdblowJonSnow · 03/10/2020 23:50

Surely Maisy is the obvious blend?!

Emilia - Emmy is a cute nn while the full name sounds elegant. With Daisy there's no way to avoid the cutesy aspect when she grows up.

Daisy! Love it.
