Marina or Marnie?

Which do you prefer? Or, 3rd option, BC Marina, NN Marnie (or maybe spelt Marni)?

Much prefer Marnie - it's such a cool name, I wish I had chosen it for my DD! It's not totally ubiquitous, but not totally out there either, and I feel like it's in the same vein as lovely Lily, Ava, Ruby, Evie type names but not as popular.

Marina is ok and 1000 times better than Marnie. Marianne or Mariana are lovely. Miriam is classy. Maria is timeless. There are lots of beautiful M names just not Marnie sorry

I really like both, but your suggestion of Marina on the BC and Marnie for short is great.

Marina is classy and elegant with an international vibe. Marnie is none of those things.

Marina is the name of a crappy old car/a place for boats/a Gerry Anderson mermaid puppet/the village “sexy blonde” in Last of the Summer Wine.

Marnie makes me think of When Marnie Was There. It’s a lovely name.

Marina is much more elegant and has a slightly exotic, cosmopolitan feel. Good Shakespearean connection too. I know a little Marnie but even though she’s lovely I can’t warm to it - don’t like the strident ‘mar’ sound, makes me think ‘mardy’ and doesn’t feel especially classy.

Marnie for me. Marina makes me burst into song and hark back to childhood TV.

Marnie has good connotations from me - the book ‘When Marnie was there’ but I don’t really like the sound of the name

Marina is lovely. I’ve two Marinas and they were both great people. Marnie is bleh. Not a real name.

I like both. I'd probably go for Marina, with Marnie as a diminutive.

Marina is awful. Isn't that where people keep boats and it's also a pasta sauce? Marina Bay Sands that famous hotel too. It just doesn't sound like a name to me.

Marnie on the other hand is an absolutely gorgeous name. Very underused too and love it's meaning and history.

How about Maria?

Definitely Marina - lovely name.
I dislike Marie. You can (and she can) decide later if you want Marnie as a nickname.

I much prefer Marina. It makes me think of Marina and the Diamonds and she’s pretty cool.

I also love the name Marcella and think it’s a very beautiful name with good nicknames like Marcy or Ella.

Marnie sounds awful. It makes me think of moaning for some reason.
Marina is not my style but it's better. However it does make me think of the mirena coil.
