What do you think of Wilson nn - Will? Do you have any similar suggestions?

Other we like are Oscar, Elliot, Barnaby, Ralph, Jacobi, Fabian and Joseph. Nothing leaping out as a front runner!

Carouselfish · 29/09/2020 11:48

Castaway and Friday Night Dinner spring to mind. Sorry op.

BrazenlyDefying · 29/09/2020 11:51

William is much better.

FelicityPike · 29/09/2020 11:53

I don’t like surnames as first names as a general rule.
Friday night dinner definitely sprung to my mind too @Carouselfish

TheCraicDealer · 29/09/2020 11:53

Our neighbours have a Wilson, I have to admit I was a bit "wtf" when I heard it but it's grown on me. I prefer Dawson though, or William if you're keen on Will as a nn.

ceecee32 · 29/09/2020 11:53

My grandad was Wilson Smile

PattyPan · 29/09/2020 11:55

It’s a surname, not a first name. Maybe an acceptable given name for a dog but not for a human imo! William or even Winston would be better.

emmathedilemma · 29/09/2020 11:57

Not for me, too much of a surname.

DeltaFlyer · 29/09/2020 12:03

My grandads twin was Wilson but everyone called him Billy as I don't think he liked it.
For years I assumed it was short for William.

mistermagpie · 29/09/2020 12:05

I know a young Wilson (aged 9). When he was born I really didn't like it but he actually suits it a lot, he gets 'Wils' for short.

Kanaloa · 29/09/2020 12:08

I think of Friday Night Dinner. I can only hear it in Jim’s voice.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 29/09/2020 12:18

2 surnames together like that make me think of law firms.

RedRumTheHorse · 29/09/2020 12:21

Unless he's william's son - nope it doesn't make sense and it's also last name.

feellikezerobucks · 29/09/2020 12:22

Try Miller, its a surname forename.
I have one and always get comments on what a nice name it is 👍🏻 sometimes known as Mill

flossletsfloss · 29/09/2020 12:22

Reminds me of shipwrecked with Tom Hanks.

flossletsfloss · 29/09/2020 12:23

Sorry I meant Cast Away Grin

ApocalypseNowt · 29/09/2020 12:25

Castaway. Wiiiiiiiilsooooonnnnnn! Grin

LunaNorth · 29/09/2020 12:25

Castaway or Dad’s Army.

Mumratheevergiving · 29/09/2020 12:26

Was going to say exactly the same as @Carouselfish

Mumof3almost4 · 29/09/2020 12:26

I really like it 😊

isthismylifenow · 29/09/2020 12:28

I can just picture that ball with the face imprint on it.

Sorry.

My friends Labrador is called Wilson.

So to me, not a baby name.

Mumratheevergiving · 29/09/2020 12:28

This is what people picture when they think of Wilson

Ginisatonic · 29/09/2020 12:28

I had a friend called Wilson when I was a teenager. He’ll be in his 60s now. Lovely bloke so I’ve always liked the name.
I like Joseph of your other choices.
Perfectly normal to have what Mumsnetters call surnames in Scotland where I grew up.
Boys I knew were called Bruce, Bryce, Kirk, Campbell, Grant, Cameron etc

Whenwillow · 29/09/2020 12:30

I like it.

ibruiseeasilysobegentle · 29/09/2020 12:32

@Kanaloa

I think of Friday Night Dinner. I can only hear it in Jim’s voice.
This was my very first thought 😂

Out of your list my favourite would be Oscar.

Lightningrain · 29/09/2020 12:35

It makes me think of Dennis ‘Mr Wiiiiilson’

I don’t hate it but prefer William.
