My husband is named Ian, does naming our child Liam sound odd for being too similar?

Another name is Ethan, but my ex has named his son (we don’t see each other) but we still have mutual friends.. thoughts?..

I wouldn't necessarily use Ethan, I'd say it depends on the length of time since a break up and the nature of break up! The fact you have mutual friends might make it feel a bit weird though.

Liam and Ian doesn't sound too matchy to me! That would be my preference.

Both fine

HP2020 · 28/09/2020 18:06

I would go with Liam and it's not too similar no

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/09/2020 18:07

Liam with Ian is fine. I wouldn’t use Ethan if you’ve still got mutual friends. It’s not the worst but I wouldn’t.

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 28/09/2020 19:07

I wouldn't use Ethan.

Any other names you like? Matthew? Michael, Daniel, Leon, Jack, Elliot?

Liam and Ian is fine but you'll find that you'll shout one of them across the house and the other will appear thinking you said their name

Enough4me · 28/09/2020 19:11

Liam and Ian fine, Ethan no because of the connection it seems odd.

It’s been well over 10 years, but yes thought it might come across as a tad odd

Both Liam and Ethan would be completely fine in those circumstances
