I wouldn't think Esme would need a nickname but I would say Essie, Emmy or May.

daisypond · 28/09/2020 20:57

How are you pronouncing Esme?
If it’s like Ez-may you could turn the syllables around and call her Maisie.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/09/2020 20:59

Nicknames evolve naturally; that's the point - I have a friend whose nickname is, oddly, Tits - she's called Bronwen and Bron means breast in Welsh. No parent would have chosen that, but she (and we) love it

My Esme gets called Ez and Ezzie but I mainly nickname her Esmerelda which I don’t think is what you’re looking for Grin

JulesCobb · 28/09/2020 21:01

Ezzie
Mimi

Nicknames just happen. And they don’t necessarily have anything to do with the actual name.

Also this is making me think of the Blackadder episode with the woman called Kate, which was short for Bob. Apologies to everyone too young to know what I’m talking about!

Lemonylemony · 28/09/2020 21:05

I have an Esme cat, she gets called Ez.

user1493494961 · 28/09/2020 21:21

Why would you choose a short name like Esme and then call her something else.

Kanaloa · 28/09/2020 21:30

All the Esmes I know are just called Esme. Could you give her a ‘J’ middle name and call her E.J? That’s all I can think of.

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 28/09/2020 21:43

Dismay

LittleEsme · 28/09/2020 21:57

Sorry - Sir Terry fan here:
Esmerelda
Esmerelda Weatherwax

Hardly a shortening but a cracking nickname.

Grufallosfriends · 28/09/2020 22:36

Why name her Esmé if you're already looking for another name? Nicknames evolve naturally, if at all.

I like Esmeralda.

1Morewineplease · 29/09/2020 17:16

Isn't Esme short for Esmeralda anyway?
Why would you want a nickname for a nickname?

RosieJess91 · 29/09/2020 17:43

My cousin Esme is usually known as Esems or Essie. 😊

yolio · 29/09/2020 17:48

When you find a nickname you like, why not call the child that name?

Sorry I don't mean to offend, but so much time is spent trying to find a suitable name, then next off the bat is "what will the nickname be?"

I love the name Esme and I doubt I would shorten it at all. Classic name if a little old fashioned, but that's ok, it will become fashionable in time.
