I’ve created a shortlist which I’ve now realised isn’t very short! Due in less than a month and I just can’t make my mind up. I’d really appreciate some feedback/ opinions on my name choices as follows:
Alaia
Aria
Matilda
Lily
Isabelle
Piper
Hattie
Ava
Olivia
Betsy
Poppy

.... Thankyou so much xx

I love Hattie and Piper!

FrenchtoEnglish · 25/09/2020 13:03

Matilda

Shayisgreat · 25/09/2020 13:05

I know it's overused at this point but I LOVE Ava. It's so pretty.

MikeUniformMike · 25/09/2020 13:06

Alaia - like Azzedine? Needs a diaeresis on the i.
Aria - nothingy, just air
Matilda - too popular
Lily - nice but don't like Lil
Isabelle - too popular
Piper- no
Hattie - yes, but short for Harriet
Ava - dislike
Olivia - too popular
Betsy - like
Poppy - like

VoyageInTheDark · 25/09/2020 13:15

I like Matilda or Betsy

ellenpartridge · 25/09/2020 13:17

I like Matilda lily poppy Ava Olivia isabelle

LittleTiger007 · 25/09/2020 13:19

From your list I would go for Piper. I’m a teacher and all the others are fairly popular right now. Piper is cool, unique and cute.

HairyToity · 25/09/2020 13:21

I like Poppy, Ava and Lily. Not keen on Piper.

emmathedilemma · 25/09/2020 13:21

Alaia - not even sure how to pronounce it? A-lie-a? A-lay-a??
Aria - awful, belongs in operas
Matilda - love it
Lily - over used about 20 years ago
Isabelle - nice, wears well, I know young and old ones and it works, plenty of nn to choose from, Iz, Izzy, Belle, Bella....
Piper - awful, chavy
Hattie - cute but i'd use as Harriet on birth certificate and nn Hattie
Ava - yes
Olivia - yes (is it popular, I don't know of any, might be a regional thing?)
Betsy - a bit too cutesy for me
Poppy - ok but i think it needs someone of certain personality to pull it off when older. Also "pops" as nn?

AdaColeman · 25/09/2020 13:27

Olivia and Isobel are hugely popular, only use if you don't mind your child being Olivia 4 or 5 at school.

I'm not keen on Betsy Poppy Aria or Alaia (how is that pronounced?).

If you've picked Aria for its musical links what about Allegra?

I like Matilda, Ava or Harriet best, but Matilda is gaining in popularity.

Staffori · 25/09/2020 13:30

Hattie and Matilda are the ones I love.

clary · 25/09/2020 13:41

Olivia is the most popular girls name atm, also has been popular for years (I was a teacher and taught many).

Also popular are Ava, Isabelle, Poppy.

Less common are, Piper and, Hattie (nickname tho?)

It depends on what you want re popularity. They are all pretty. I think Piper and Matilda are my faves

Cheesewine · 25/09/2020 13:43

Aria and Ava were on our list. We went for Ayla.

AlphaJura · 25/09/2020 13:48

Oneandabean · 25/09/2020 16:10

Alaia-not a fan
Aria- I know a fair few, bit bland and pronunciation varies.
Matilda- again popular and I find it harsh sounding
Lily- very pretty
Isabelle- it is popular but I love it (biased)
Piper- love it, was on my list
Hattie- it’s a nice nickname but not a full name
Ava-bland and common
Olivia- number 1 girls name
Betsy- I like it
Poppy- every other dogs name (including mine🙈)

LotusClover · 25/09/2020 16:24

Alaia - wouldn't know how to pronounce
Aria - beautiful
Matilda - not keen
Lily - beautiful
Isabelle - prefer the Isabel spelling, but either way it's too bland. Too popular, and there are too many different spellings (Isobel, Isabel, Isabelle, Isabella...)
Piper - really really dislike
Hattie - cute but would use Harriet as the full name
Ava - very popular but lovely
Olivia - #1 most popular girls name, but beautiful
Betsy - don't like
Poppy - a bit too cutesy

I would go for Aria, Ava or Olivia personally.

user1493494961 · 25/09/2020 18:31

Alaia sounds made up, dislike Aria and Piper, really like all your other names, particularly Matilda and Isabelle.

CatteStreet · 25/09/2020 18:42

That's a mixed bag!

Matilda is my stand-out favourite. Strong, elegant, simple, international/travels well.

I like Hattie, too, but I would give her Harriet as a full name.

Isabelle is nice, but done to death. I prefer the Isabel spelling.

Aria and Piper will date, badly.

Twisique · 25/09/2020 18:58

Matilda nn Tilly Matty Tilda

Matilda Lily or Matilda Olivia would be nice.

micc · 25/09/2020 19:08

Ava is my favourite!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 25/09/2020 19:13

Piper & Aria are my favourites.
Piper won't date as Gillian Anderson's 26 yr old DD is called Piper.

Allegra as suggested above is pretty too.
I also like Ariella & Alia.

VenusClapTrap · 25/09/2020 21:07

Hattie is my favourite, with Harriet on her birth certificate.
