Hello Everybody!! I am pregnant with my baby girl and I need some help with naming her. If you guys have any suggestions, i'd love to hear them! I already have 2 boys, Jonah (Vince- middle name) & Arthur (Laurence).
I have loved the name Scarlett for a while, but i think it might be too popular, what do you guys think of it? Some other names i have liked are Marina, Katherine or Cressida. Do you have any similar names you think i would like? Thank you!

I think Marina goes better with your son's names. How about Tabitha or Penelope?

CatteStreet · 18/09/2020 21:14

Scarlett will date. And it's just not a nice name (IMO). Marina, Katherine (unusual these days) and Cressida are all much nicer.

How about Meriel or Maren (pronounced MAH-ren - means 'of the sea')?

Thiswayorthatway · 18/09/2020 21:15

Scarlett is a great name, go for it

Octopiggy · 18/09/2020 21:16

I like Scarlett! I’ve only known of one in all the baby/toddler/nursery/schools I’ve been part of.

I also like Katherine from your list.

How about....

Harriet
Evelyn

Penelope
Georgia
Sophie

Congratulations on your baby girl!

passmethewineplease · 18/09/2020 21:19

I’m bias as I have a Scarlett. I love it.

Figgygal · 18/09/2020 21:22

I live in Bristol and all Scarlets around here are called Scaaaar it’s not pleasant shortened anyway but doubly so with that accent

I don’t actually dislike it but could never use it

Ikeameatballs · 18/09/2020 21:23

I like Scarlett and Katherine.

What about:
Serena
Lydia
Davina
Frances
Sadie
Polly

nettytree · 18/09/2020 21:25

My daughter has 3 Scarletts in her class.

Oneandabean · 18/09/2020 21:35

I only know of one Scarlett and she’s 14, she’s lovely and it’s a great name

Lunamaeve · 18/09/2020 22:03

I know a few Scarlett’s but no where near as many Ava, Evie, Isla’s I know, go for it, it’s lovely🙂

Firebird83 · 18/09/2020 22:29

Marina and Katherine are much nicer

FluffyEggsontoast · 18/09/2020 23:00

Love Scarlett. Great choice
In terms of popularity ...
If you look at the official statistics, the numbers of baby's called Scarlett have been decreasing each and every year since 2013
No wonder I haven't met anyone with this name. It's about the leave the top 50 names and by the time the 2021 statistics come out it'll be heading out the top 100 based on current trajectory
It's way wayyy less popular than Arthur these days.

MsTSwift · 18/09/2020 23:01

Marina is a lovely name. Scarlett pretty dreadful imo

emilybrontescorsett · 19/09/2020 00:00

I think Scarlett is lovely. I like Catherine too (much prefer that spelling).

Cecelori · 19/09/2020 00:24

I like your choice of scarlett, and out of the others I like cressida then marina.

sorryforswearing · 19/09/2020 03:16

3 Scarletts in my class year 1 class last year. A couple more in the rest of school.

itsjakeandamy · 19/09/2020 23:38

Jonah and Arthur are great names.
I'm not a massive fan of Scarlett but I think the sibset actually sounds really good.
Marina just reminds me of marinas and isn't that pretty. Also one brand of contraceptive coil is called a Mirena but pronounced the same way.
Katherine is ok - Kitty goes brilliantly with your boys' names as a nn though I'd be tempted just to use it as the full name.
Cressida is ok as well.
Other thoughts:
Elodie
Miranda
Cecily

But I think Kitty is best!

MsTSwift · 20/09/2020 07:57

I think of Scarlett and also Lola as quite sexualised names hence my dislike of them both appreciate this might be just me!

Tinty · 20/09/2020 07:59

Scarlett is nice but maybe a little too popular at the moment.

How about Astrid or Felicity?

FluffyEggsontoast · 20/09/2020 08:54

Felicity is a great name but it's on a fairly consistent upward swing whereas Scarlett has been on downward trajectory every year since 2013 (it's about to leave the top 50) , so definitely don't pick a name like Felicity just because you think it'll be less popular, by the time the 2021/2022/2023 statistics come out, felicity could well have overtaken Scarlett if the current trends continue

FluffyEggsontoast · 20/09/2020 08:54

Sorry meant to tag you in my post @Tinty

Tinty · 20/09/2020 12:05

FluffyEggsontoast

Oh I didn’t know that, I don’t know any Felicity’s. But my. DD is yr 11 so maybe there are a lot of young ones now. Smile

Choose Astrid then OP. 😁

len1234 · 20/09/2020 14:10

I love Scarlett, it's beautiful and timeless. I much prefer it to the other names on your list, but I don't mind Marina either.

FluffyEggsontoast · 20/09/2020 14:28

Yes understood @Tinty - 11 years ago Scarlett was a top 25 name whereas feliticty was outside the top 200.
Felicity has now risen to just inside the top 100 and Scarlett about to fall out of the top 50 and is on a massive downward slope.

I don't know why I'm focusing on Felicity though as it's actually a gorgeous name and one I'd definitely consider using. I've never met a felicity or a Scarlett to be honest !

CuddlyDudley71 · 21/09/2020 19:15

My 11 yr old DD is Felicity and I'm surprised how it's risen in popularity. Never met another one though and don't know why it's zoomed up the charts! Fliss is her chosen nickname and I hate Flick- my dad calls her Fil.
