What do we think about Harriet for a first name, and any ideas for middle names? Our last name stats with Ail.

So far we like (ish):

Harriet Grace
Harriet May
Harriet Mabel
Harriet Wren

Any other suggestions?

I have a Harriet Ivy. Named after two great grandmothers. Lots of lovely other suggestions here too.

Octopiggy · 18/09/2020 22:55

I think it’s really cute - I nearly used it as a middle name after Esme.

Pinkfluffyunicornsdancing · 18/09/2020 23:06

Harriet Rose. It flows nicely off the tongue.
Hattie is nice and cute for a nickname and Harriet is strong for the boardroom.

Harriet Grace and Harriet May are lovely.
Harriet Alice
Harriet Susannah
Harriet Eleanor
Harriet Ellen
Harriet Maisie
Harriet Emma

I have a Harriet Grace. She is called Hattie or Hats day to day though. She really likes her name (thank goodness!)

Pregernaught · 19/09/2020 08:31

Aaaaah lovely to hear from Harriets who love their name! I love it for exactly the same reasons, it’s feminine but strong, and she can be Hattie, Hats or Harri day to day if she likes.

Harriet Grace is on the list because the meaning of my name is ‘Grace’, so it’s a way of naming her after me without being explicit if that makes sense.

I love Harriet Rose, hasn’t thought of that one!

However, Harriet Joy is just perfect. This baby is our first after 13 miscarriages and she’s possibly the most longed for and wanted baby in the entire world ever Grin so Joy? Abso-friggin-lutely!

I’m also a Harriet (Harri or Harrie, never Hattie!) and I’ve always liked it. It means ruler/leader of the house which has always sat well with me Grin a proper name that everyone’s heard of but not loads about. People have always told me what a nice name I’ve got, which is nice! All the best for your little rainbow Harriet Smile

BuffaloCauliflower · 19/09/2020 08:36

I always go as Harriet now though, only family and old friends shorten it. I like the flexibility!

Harriet Grace

Pregernaught · 19/09/2020 08:47

@BuffaloCauliflower that’s the thing, it’s a name that can carry through life no matter who she chooses to be Smile whether she’s a power-Harriet in a boardroom or a creative-Hattie or a Musical-Harri or all or none of the above :)

My best friends name is Alice, when I asked her opinion on the name she said ‘I’m Alice in wonderland and she will be my mad-Hattie’, I had a little tear at that! So yes, you lot have confirmed it that Harriet it is.

Thanks so much! I’m going to put Harriet Joy to DH and see what he says :)

Harriet is lovely. I personally wouldn’t use May as a middle name as I am a primary school teacher and currently in every class about 6-8 of the girls have May (or Mae, Mai) as their middle name another 6-8 girls have Rose as their middle name. These are pretty names so go ahead if you like it but be aware.

I am all of these things when I want to be! Agree it’s a name that works in all contexts and shifts with you as you ages

Love! And Harriet Wren, I like!

FluffyEggsontoast · 19/09/2020 09:13

Love love love Harriet

Firebird83 · 19/09/2020 09:42

Harriet Joy is lovely

Pickles89 · 19/09/2020 10:06

I really like Harriet. It's classic but unusual. I also like Hattie, or even Harri as nicknames.

May isn't a great middle name as so overused. Same with Grace. Mabel is just a terrible. Other suggestions would be Faye, Belle or Jane.

AllPlayedOut · 19/09/2020 11:27

I love Harriet.

camellia15 · 10/06/2021 19:36

Harriet May

KatySun · 10/06/2021 19:43

I was going to say I really like the Harriet Joy suggestion and with your update, it sounds perfect.
