This is the front runner for DS2 currently with DH - I like the nicknames Rick, Ricky, Rich, Richie too. I do think it seems a little grown up for a baby, however I think as he will grow up a bit - I see it as a lovely name for a man. What do people think? Thank you

I love it. It was on my shortlist for ds.

Anthilda · 17/09/2020 22:54

I love it, especially Dicky!

SweptOutOfAPigeonLoft · 17/09/2020 23:12

@Firebird83 it’s important to recognise they are only babies for such a small part of their life.

In my experience Richard is Rich. Lovely name.

DramaAlpaca · 17/09/2020 23:14

It's nice, a good, strong underused classic.

Topseyt · 18/09/2020 02:27

I like it. Good, strong and traditional name.

brushandmop · 18/09/2020 05:55

Excellent name;
I hope you choose it

FeedMeSantiago · 18/09/2020 08:29

I like Richard - surname dependent. I knew a Richard Everard at school who was forever known as Dick Ever Hard.

All the Richard's I know are in their late 20s or 30s. Most go by Richard with one preferring Rich and one is known as a nickname derived from his surname, think Richard James known as Jim.

I think Richard as a full name is nicer than any of the nicknames arising from the name.

GnomeoNameo · 18/09/2020 12:24

Fantastic underused name, and deserves a comeback.
No-one would know the connection with Dick these days, certainly not children.

I know two Richards, and they were lovely as children and not teased for their name.

CurtainWitcher · 18/09/2020 12:29

Awful name!

Richard is Hyacinth Bucket's drippy husband.
Ricky is Bianca EastEnders' drippy husband.
And then we have Dick.

Horrible name.

Dreamcatcher34 · 18/09/2020 12:49

I think it’s very dated.

BeMorePacific · 18/09/2020 12:49

I know a baby called Richard. I do find it strange, as it’s definitely a grown up name. But he won’t be a baby for long.
If you love it go for it xx

MercyBodle · 18/09/2020 14:34

I've always loved it. I would love to meet a little Richard!

Yes, excellent choice.

Anappleaday1 · 18/09/2020 20:45

I really like it! I think it would be really refreshing to meet a baby Richard, and it will grow nicely with them.

iloveyoubutilovememore · 18/09/2020 20:46

Please don’t!

GammyLeg · 18/09/2020 20:50

Love it. A kings name.

Orphlids · 18/09/2020 21:07

Oh, I think Richard is a wonderful name! I’d be absolutely delighted to meet a little baby or toddler Richard. It’s such an established name, but is so scarcely used for youngsters now that it would be wonderfully refreshing. And the fact it’s so far from cute just recommends it even more. I agree strongly with a PP who described it as a handsome name. I have a pal named Richard, late 30s, who goes by Dickie, which I love. I always think of the incredibly charismatic Dickie Greenleaf from The Talented Mr Ripley. Great choice!

averylongtimeago · 18/09/2020 21:13

My DS is Richard. We never shortened his name, though some of his friends call him "Rich ". He was born in the early'80's.
I like the name. He is a great bloke- love him to bits.

You go with the name you like- when you see your new baby for the first time, you will know if the name fits or not.

Sk1nnyB1tch · 18/09/2020 21:25

I like it, was a common name for my generation in school and they were all Richie then. Probably as adults they are Richard in work at least.
I don't think people really use Dick as a nickname for it any more, I was an adult before I knew that was what Dick was short for.

emilybrontescorsett · 19/09/2020 00:02

I like it.

bombcyclone · 19/09/2020 00:06

@Costacoffeeplease 💯

Thisismytimetoshine · 19/09/2020 00:12

I like it. Plenty of dicks about who aren't called Richard. It's a name, not a description 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bbq1 · 19/09/2020 00:23

Cute and actually very unusual. I like Richie
