Hi all - will try again :)...
Any opinions / favourites on our current baby names, or similar names that could be options please? We don't know if baby is a boy or a girl but OH is half Spanish so would like the name to be Latin influenced.
If boy middle name will be Paul, if girl middle name will be Dawn. Plus our surname is pretty short and begins with D.

Girls:
Susanna
Daniela
Maria
Eleanor

Boys:
Lucas
Luis
Jamie
Thomas

TIA,
Paul

I love all your names. It's a lovely list. My favs would probably be Susanna & Daniela and Lucas & Jamie. I never really worry about middle names "going with" first as so seldom used.

Soubriquet · 29/08/2020 14:51

I heard the name Catalina the other day NN Lina

Thought that was nice

QuentinInQuarantino · 29/08/2020 15:00

Hello.

I'm Spanish. Susanna and Eleanor are not Spanish - the equivalents would be Susana and Elena.

You seem to like traditional style names so things like these are Spanish but not overly so!

Laura
Marta
Ana
Sofia
Cristina
Sara
Carmen
Gabriela
Marina
Carlota

Boys:
Oliver
Markel
Javier
Sebastián
Simón

And here are the names shouted across the playground where I live:

Girls:
Maite
Malen
Miren
Amaia
Ainara
Valeria
Clara
Lea

Boys:
Iker
Aitor
Jon
Ander
Victor
Hugo
Telmo
Braulio
Mark
Bryan (!)
Roy (!!)

Thank you all, so far. It's a Spainish influenced name we're after, doesn't have to be the actual spelling. Susanna was gathered from the Catalan municipality but my wife has put me straight - Susana.

I do like Gabriela, Sara and Marina as well.

Can you advise if Maria, Daniela and Lucas are typically Spainish? I think I like names that could be British or Spanish but we can explain where it was influenced from one day :)

Daniela, Maria yes, I've never heard of a Lucas, there may be some out there, but Luca is quite normal. Leo is quite nice too? A lot of the bilingual families here choose names like Leo (pronounced in Spanish as lay-oh not lee-oh, or oscar or Oliver or Daniel).

If your wife isn't Catalan it might be odd using the Catalan spelling, no? My ds has the Catalan spelling of his name but only because it is also the same as the English spelling and he's Spanish/English!

I found it really hard finding a name that worked in both languages!

QuentinInQuarantino · 29/08/2020 17:01

I think Maria is lovely and very international really, not just Spanish. Also it's pronounced the same everywhere so she wouldn't have any trouble.

Unlike, say Lucia, which is nice but:
Loo-chee- ah (italy
Loo - see- ah (uk)
Loo - th - ee - ah (Spain!)

Seeleyboo · 29/08/2020 17:15

Angel. Can be either boys or girls.

evilharpy · 29/08/2020 17:16

Jamie isn't Spanish, it would be Jaime and pronounced completely differently.

tywysoges · 29/08/2020 18:54

Lucas is very popular in my country, we speak Portuguese rather than Spanish though Wink

luckystriken · 29/08/2020 19:37

I know quite a few boys named Lucas, I'm from a Spanish-speaking country in Latin America though so not sure that helps. It's a lovely name and I think works perfectly in both languages.

drumandthebass · 29/08/2020 19:46

I love Gabriella. What abut Paloma?

Cant think of any boys names though

Hirewiredays · 29/08/2020 19:50

I worked in South America and I love the names: Alysia, Emiliana/o, Alejandro, Mateo and Isabela and Camilo.

4kidmom · 29/08/2020 19:51

I really like Susanna Dawn or Maria Dawn from your list. Lucas Paul is my favorite of the boy names. Good names!

Hirewiredays · 29/08/2020 19:51

Sorry Alejandro/a

Winecurestiredness · 29/08/2020 19:59

My cousin is half Spanish, she was called Roxanne, but now as a teenager is Roxy. She has olive skin and dark hair like the spanish side of her family and although not a typically spanish name I think it really suits her!

BellaVida · 29/08/2020 20:14

I lived in Spain for a while and always liked Ainhoa and Maite for girls' names, and Ramón for a boy Smile

JanewaysBun · 29/08/2020 21:20

raskolnikova · 29/08/2020 21:41

Elisa (Eh-lee-sa)
Paula

Javier for boys

I think Elisa Dawn would be a pretty name

Jadeeeeee · 29/08/2020 21:41

Manuel :)

ButterflyRuns · 29/08/2020 21:44

Similar to Eleanor on your list, I really like Elena for a girl. Lucas is cute!

Paul1384 · 30/08/2020 18:48

Thanks all for your thoughts.

I like Maria or Susana for a girl, mrs likes Daniela. I like Thomas/Tomas or Lucas for a boy, mrs likes Leon. We'll keep this thread and our list of names and see what baby looks like when the time comes :). If I remember will try and update with what we choose.
